I've been away for the last month so apologies if I've missed this . . . but is it common knowledge that Arlene Phillips is to be a judge on the BBC version of 'So You Think You Can Dance', starting in January?
She'll be alongside fellow judge Nigel Lythgoe and presenter Cat Deeley (both assuming their respective roles in the US version).
EDIT: sorry I've just found the thread from a few weeks ago . . . but I think Cat Deeley's confirmation as presenter is new news.
Strictly Come Dancing has now been going for four weeks. These are the stars and their partners who were in at the start:
Rav Wilding & Aliona Vilani
Zoe Lucker & James Jordan
Ricky Groves & Erin Boag
Jo Wood & Brendan Cole
Chris Hollins & Ola Jordan
Natalie Cassidy & Vincent Simone
Richard Dunwoody & Lilia Kopylova
Jade Johnson & Ian Waite
Craig Kelly & Flavia Cacace
Martina Hingis & Matthew Cutler
Ricky Whittle & Natalie Lowe
Lynda Bellingham & Darren Bennett
Phil Tufnell & Katya Virshilas
Ali Bastian & Brian Fortuna
Joe Calzaghe & Kristina Rihanoff
Laila Rouass & Anton du Beke
So far the following four couples have been eliminated:
Martina & Matthew
Richard & Lilia
Rav & Aliona
Lynda & Darren
Unfortunately I missed the first part of week one on Friday 18 September (ballroom round) as I didn't realise it was on. You see, I don't recall Strictly Come Dancing being on a Friday night before. I did see the Latin round of part one on Saturday 19 September though. I made sure I saw both parts of week two. Since week 3, they've only had one show on Saturday night, with each couple doing just one dance.
Remember last year I said I wanted some or all the following to be in this year's line-up. Unfortunately none of them have made it in, worse luck on my part.
Jon Bentley , Jason Bradbury , Suzi Perry
and/or
Dallas Campbell
from Five's The Gadget Show .
Pete Hillier
from Boogie Beebies (if he can be instructor for a pre-schoolers' dance show, he's definitely got the talent to dance)
Chris Jarvis
Terry Wogan
Fearne Cotton
Huw Edwards
(BBC newsreader)
Jessica Garlick
(she sang for UK in the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest, the UK's last entry to finish in the top five)
Chris Tarrant
from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Cliff Richard
Vernon Kay
Gary Wilmot
(that's one I didn't have on my list last year, but he should be a good contender too).
Am I right in thinking none of this year's 14 are GMTV celebrities (I haven't checked)? If the last two years are anything to go by, GMTV celebs don't have a hope of going far in Strictly Come Dancing, considering that Kate Garraway (2007) was eliminated week 7 and Andrew Castle (2008) was eliminated week 7.
Strictly is a tad long at the moment, at about 2 hours and 20 minutes, partly due to having the dancing and results all in one show this time. Thankfully it'll gradually shorten as couples disappear, until there's about 7 or 6 left, at which point making them do two dances per show will lengthen it again.
And so the rain in Brazil wrecks qualifying in the Brazil GP. How this is to be resolved on BBC TV will be intriguing with SCD looming large on the horizon.

Could there not just move it 30mins later? saying that with these crashes it could be a hour late
Jo Wood and Brendon Cole walked out in a jokey way because Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood said that Jo Wood was like a grasshopper/kangaroo. Bruce Forsyth didn't see them walk out and assumed it was a 'proper' walk out and told Craig off. Sounded like he began to tell him off again just as it cut to Tess Daly too.
