Interesting that the picture quality of Strictly looks, if anything, better than previously even though the bitrate for BBC HD on DSat has gone from 16.5Mbs to 9Mbs since they installed new encoders!
Sound dropouts were very annoying and present on both the 5.1 AC3 and 2.0 MP2 streams... There were also drop outs on the Proms - I wonder if there are issues with live 5.1 (via Dolby E?) at the moment.

For the little bit of the programme that I saw last night, I have to say the audio really let the programme down. Things just didn't seem right and the levels seemed to be a bit all over the place with certain things getting drowned out as a result. I was only watching in standard SD but it certainly doesn't seem to be up to the standard they've achieved in previous years.

Interesting - I got lots of dropout on the Last Night of the Proms too, so much that I got a bit bored and went to bed. That and the fact that the programme of music was terrible, the bugle call nonsense between the Parks was awful and the director seemed a bit obsessed with the shot of the chandilier. Anyway , as no-one else had mentioned it on here or other forums (not that I looked terribly hard, so sorry if the links come thick and fast after this post!) I assumed I had something amiss in my setup or reception.

On balance I'd say the picture quality of BBC HD has improved since the change to the new encoders, and the resulting drop in bit rate. You also don't seem to get that nasty 'stepping' effect during fade to/from blacks anymore.
I do notice that vertically scrolling captions do start to jerk if the background behind them gets 'busy' with movement, though I'm not sure whether that's something in my TV or D-Sat box running out of processing power ?

Bearded, talentless gimp Justin Lee Collins has launched an attack on Brucie - saying he's "too old" and was "struggling" with the live Strictly shows.
He then whines about meeting his hero, saying Bruce was "rude and unhelpful", refusing to answer JLC's weak and silly questions (like "who do you want to win?" - which Brucie couldn't possibly have answered).
Well Justin - I was on the edge with you. I always wondered what your appeal was, and now I know for sure it was just that you worked with Alan Carr.

Watch, and then join me to pour scorn on this nobody who isn't fit to lick Bruce's zimmer frame.

My favourite line in the article : "Lee Collins, who was replaced by Claudia Winkleman when the Strictly Come Dancing companion show moved to BBC Two..."
I remember the BBC Three Strictly Spin-off, and he (and it) was awful...
I very much doubt Bruce wanted to be there and had any respect for JLC at all. Claudia is a much better presenter and It Takes Two is a much better show...
Having been in the audience for a Strictly, Brucie is anything but past-it. He's a great entertainer and is great with a live audience. Major contrast to Tess - who is non-existent when she's not on-camera.

That's the first thing that popped into my head when I watched his comments. Bruce replied quite rightly to his daft questions.

Anyone fancy discussing this?:

Is this the papers trying another way to dig at Strictly now that they've realised the show is fine without Arlene? Should Anton be saked (Carol Thatcher was from The One Show in not dissimilar circumstances)? Is it a storm in a teacup? What will be said of it on Saturday?
As a complete aside, I thought Saturday's show was monumental. Reckon they've got too many people taking part in the thing now...
