Yeah, although it says Katie Derham will present the evening News... somehow I think it will be her and Mary.

The pres on the ITV News Channel is all over the place at the moment
I have seen the old Weather and Markets stings played out several times this week, and they don't seem to be able to decide whether to display the corporate blue-and-yellow logo on the screens in the studio, or the older ITN-style version.
Also, the presenters have clearly been told (by Mannion or Crossley-Holland I suppose) to ad-lib before the weather forecast. This has made for some cringeworthy moments in recent days.

Yes I've seen her do a Saturday Lunchtime News bulletin before, should have been Bill Neely IMO.
The Late ITV News is really disappointing this week... tonight they claim it's just 5 minutes at 11 o'clock... awful! Then next week there's only 1 News at Ten on Thursday and that'll probably start late. And then on Saturday it's on at 9:00... what's going on?

Well it's because of the new season programmes. They were allowed to put the news out later for so many times a year by the ITC, they are using most of these opportunities in the Autumn.
I really don't see the point of a news head to head with the BBC anyway, it increases choice if the news is on at different times. The sooner that ITV resolves the issue of the late news the better, Nigel Pickard is in favour of a regular slot I believe and I suppose 10.30 is looking most likely.

Maybe Katie has became used to being a main co-anchor of the evening news, and the smaller weekend bulletins just don't excite her anymore?

So who do you prefer: Mary or Katie?
And who do you think ITV News chiefs prefer?
As Katie has been there longer I'd suggest she was the main female newsreader, but Mary Nightingale found herself in a more favourable position as she was filling in for Kirsty Young (on maternity leave) when News at Ten was re-introduced, and hence moved from the Lunchtime to Evening bulletin. She also had the chance to prove herself when fronting coverage of the Queen Mother's death.

I personally think that the news chiefs prefer Mary, (even though Katie's been there longer), she was the one who was chosen to fill in for Kirsty Young went on maternity leave, and she was the one who was fronting the cover of Queen Mother's death and funeral. I personally prefer Katie, she seems a lot warmer, relaxed and more welcoming, where as Mary seems a little cold, and nervous when reading the news.
