I think it's a great shame ITV aren't building one large studio in the new building along with the smaller ones, but there you go.

Couldn’t agree more but I think there’ll be fewer and fewer people who’ll remember big shiny floor LE shows as time goes on. It’s not that long ago that many shows were recorded in theatres in the full variety tradition. That is now almost never ever seen on tv.

You see it more now that there isn't much studio space!

I'd never seen a TV show filmed in a theatre until TVC closed

And of course you've got Live At The Apollo and Tonight at the London Palladium.

You probably did, just didn't realise it. Live From The Apollo is probably the well known, that and it's predecessor presented by Jack Dee started many years before TVC closed

As Deejay says it was very common years ago, in fact the BBC had their own theatre for TV, home to Wogan, Crackerjack, Generation Game, Thats Life and many others. ITV used theatres lots in the early days in lieu of purpose built studios. But then still regular broadcast from theatres for it's long running Live From variety shows and Sunday Night at The London Palladium

What other tv shows are filmed in the same studio as The GN Show?

I’m not sure you can really count Live at the Apollo, as that was deliberately ‘at the Apollo’ and designed to showcase stand up comedians in their natural habitat so to speak.

Moving to closure .....

The Graham Norton Show usually takes a short break for a month in late February, so when Graham returns do we know where the show will be moving too? Television Centre, Elstree or the soon to be reopened Riverside?

QI, sometimes Have I Got News For You, they usually use Studio 2, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, All Star Mr and Mrs, The Chase Celebrity Specials, Mock the Week, The Jonathan Ross Show up until last year, Blind Date, Alan Carr specials.

Of course there has been a huge history of shows made in Studio 1 from The Stanley Baxter Show, Upstairs Downstairs, An Audience With, Michael Barrymore Shows, Game for a Laugh, Beadles About, Parkinson (2004-2007 ITV version), Hale and Pace, The British Comedy Awards, Strike it Rich, So Graham Norton, V Graham Norton, Father Ted ... the list is endless.

Wow I'm really shocked by that. Honestly didn't know that many shows were filmed in just that one studio. Amazing how they manage to dismantle and rebuild them sets so many times over

The London Studios is/was well loved by productions. Located on the bank of the Thames, with Big Ben, London Eye right near to it and close to the top hotels and theatres of London, it was a perfect location for a studio complex and perfect to bring big stars to big shows, whether on ITV or BBC etc. It will be missed very much.
