Their TOTH sequences are just far too long nowadays. 2 mins and 6 seconds is just overkill!

Far preferred it when they kept it short and snappy when they first launched the show.

Perhaps their TOTH routine is needlessly complex?

Compare and contrast...

GMB:
Opening "itv" sting
Wipe from sting to studio link.
Wipes between each of the umpteen opening headlines, with various screen clutter (straps/graphics/astons etc) superimposed throughout.
Wipe from final headline to opening titles (and the associated need for the audio to go from the headline bed to the main melody).
Date-specific voiceover and written-out-text to be added to each day's titles.
End-of-titles necessitates abrupt cut to studio wideshot as the logo lunges forward to the viewer (if this ever went wrong, we would presumably linger on a full-screen of a single colour - either the orangey-yellow colour of the logo blob background, or another colour used as a matte (e.g. black or a "CSO-typical" shade of green?) which may be an inherent part of the titles ending?)

BBC Breakfast:
Straight to first studio link, with no sting/wipe (or anything else) preceding it.
Just one opening headline, with no screen clutter superimposed.
Mix (not wipe) to opening titles (and the associated need for the audio to go from the headline bed to the main melody).
No date-specific audio and/or visual required during the titles.
Titles endboard does not necessitate any wipe or abrupt cut to studio, so can be lingered upon if necessary before finally mixing back to studio wideshot.

Either one or the other of the following things must be true:

1. GMB's kit and/or its operator(s) are not as good at what they're trying to do as they should/could be (and/or other programmes would be?), and they need to make improvements.

Or...

2. Realistically, what they're trying to do would be a tall order for any programme's kit and/or its operator(s) to do consistently well, and therefore it would be inadvisable for any live television programme to be attempting this thrice in as many hours, five days per week.

I think you'll find that the bed doesn't run into the opening titles anymore - there is a short rumble which leads into the titles. This allows them to extend the TOTH to any length without having to fit in the headlines to an alloted time.

The two presenter name graphic for Piers and Susanna didn't appear until 2:58 in that video, after the TOTH sequence had completely finished. I wonder if this is a planned change, or whether it happened simply because the TOTH went wrong and they realised they hadn't played it out when they should have done.

The presenter aston appeared at the original time at 8am. I think they showed it after the titles at 6am because of Piers and Susanna not standing in the right place as to where the aston would appear before giving the headlines.

A hint at GMBs U.S. Election graphics this morning

I think that they should pre-record the TOTH so that they actually get it right. They could have an attempt at 5.45 for example and if it goes wrong just try again a couple of times. Would also stop us from seeing that awkward shuffle into the desk that we the main presenters doing.

And I don't know what they were thinking with this background, why so complicated?*

Can we have the star ratings from the mocks forum here? I want to rate this design one star.

Or you could be looking far too much into it. Live tv, mistakes happen. Personally, I think the GMB graphics are fine too. Just some on this particular thread are throwing their toys out of the pram because there hasn't been another refresh... Ha!

GMB's graphics probably are over complicated, but they are much better than Breakfast's. GMB has an opening sting, whereas Breakfast crashes on air just before 6, with the presenters looking awkwardly at the camera, seemingly wondering if they are on air. GMB says what is coming up, then the titles, then the top story. Breakfast does the headline of the top story, then the titles, then 3-4 minutes of what's coming up.

Image wise, GMB beats Breakfast every time. However, content wise, Breakfast will always be superior to GMB.

It's not really a fair comparison as Breakfast has to use the standard BBC News graphics anyway.
