Well let’s hope the UK pull out of it.

Is that what The Scouts teach? If at first you don't succeed, spit your dummy out and go off in a strop.

If at first!!? It’s been years now. What’s the point of entering a song contest if - no matter how good our song is - people won’t vote for us due to political reasons?

They’re the ones who are being childish. The whole things a joke. There was a point when the Cyprus guy said “And Cyprus’s 12 points go to....” and the audience shouted out “Greece!” about a second before he confirmed the inevitable.

What the Scouts teach is to play fair and not to judge people on where they come from!

The song was as good as the result. The real question is what is the point in entering poor songs and weak acts into a song contest then moaning when it doesn't finish top ten?

P.S. I think the best way to improve our chances is to scrap the Big 5 pass to the final and force us to compete in the semis and earn our place in the final. That's the only way I can see us upping our game.

Cyprus and Greece exchange points for very obvious, and non political, reasons in the same way that some other countries always seem to share votes (the UK from Malta and Ireland was always a regular reliable points banker)

But when it comes to the final results its always a good song and performance that wins. The winning song needs good points from lots of countries, not just the ones they share cultural and ethnic links with. Greece and Cyprus's regular 12 votes are irrelevant

That and revamping our national selection show.

It's one show. Other countries have 6 week shows. I'm not saying bring back TOTP exactly, but bring back something like it (But focusing on both established and up and coming acts). Require that if you appear as an up and coming act and your song is published after Sept 1st, the audience can pick your song as our entry.

Then the BBC can pick 8 songs. Have a semi-final and then a final. The winner we send to the Eurovision semi-final.

Problem is we already have far too many talent shows on from Sep-March time, so I cannot see them turning this into something longer. Unless they use All Together Now for this reason or move it to another time of year so the weeks are freed up for a Eurovision show.

For starters rename it Eurovision: Must Do Better 😁

It doesn't need to be multi week and frankly we're not in that position. A one-off show with around 10 songs similar to what SBS did this year would be fine. It needs to be primetime BBC1 on Saturday night and more of an arena show than a studio show. I don't buy the BBC couldn"t afford that - Eurovision fans would sell it out easily at a fair, if slightly inflated, price, and the BBC put on a number of other events across the year such as SPOTY, the Teen Awards, Children in Need Rocks, the Proms and various Radio 1 & 2 events.

The closer the decision show can match Eurovision the better our chance in Eurovision.

Ireland had no show - song hand picked by RTÉ executives as has been the case since 2016 (and consequently there has been practically no pre-publicity for the contest here, which probably just as well when we’ve qualified for the final once in the past six years. So if you think the UK is doing bad, it could be worse).

All political voting does is sort out the order at the right hand side of the board. The songs that gain the most votes are usually lauded as the most popular throughout the process.

The Netherlands hadn't won in 45 years. Portugal waited 49 years to win. Israel had 20 years between their latest two wins. Your solution to the problem is to judge everyone else in the contest and accuse them of playing politics.
