There are some rumours spreading that this years contest is going to be cancelled, although this hasn’t yet been confirmed by the EBU.

Wasn't this Jon Ola Sand's last year also? What a way to leave the contest...

All that preparation all gone to waste in a heartbeat. Awful.

Pretty crushing for someone who loves the contest as much as I do. Decades of getting a show together, often in trying circumstances, but this just proved too much. I accept and understand why they've made the decision they have but I'd be lying if I didn't say I weren't hugely disappointed.

Couldn't/shouldn't they have found a way to do it, even if it's remotely/without an audience like some some have suggested (eg. using pre-recordings from each country if they can't be live from each country)? Even if they wanted everyone on the same stage/place couldn't they have found a way to do it? Even if the host countries rules disallowed that many people couldn't they have a few in at a time (who haven checked for corona like suggested) or done it with green screens or LED backgrounds (to show a virtual representation of the actual stage) from other countries and maybe green screened/CGI'd in an audience? They could have had quite a long time to make it work well. Sad

This is the United Kingdom’s best result for years.

The problem with that is the unequal technical abilities across the 41 entrants. The larger broadcasters having a considerable advantage. In addition you'd have needed to have live presentations so that the song perfomance being judged isn't subjected to edits.

Sadly I agree that this is the right decision.

Maybe, though it's a song content rather than a singing contest. So they're really supposed to be judging the songs themselves I think not the performance of them as much.
