Coronavirus - Impact on live/recorded shows

Several talk programmes have cancelled studio audiences (March 2020)

Just watching the extended HIGNFY. Works a lot better than I thought it would - Steph's really good, although I occasionally get the feeling they've re-recorded some of her links (probably necessary for continuity and such) . Ian and Paul are playing off each other more since they haven't got an audience to do that with, and Paul in particular looks like he's having more fun than he has in years.

This is a regular requirement but stands out more without the studio setting and audience.

It's normal for all panel shows to do retakes at the end, however now there's not the issue of getting the audience to laugh in the same way they did first time round!

Did The Mash Report have some sort of controversial Boris comment that might have been seen as inappropriate after last night's news or something? Friday's episode isn't available on iPlayer.

EDIT: HIGNFY also down but Have I Got a Bit More News For You is still up. 37 minute length, is that right? I thought it was normally a 45 min slot?

The Dutch version's title sequence looks nice and it's good they're keeping up with the times.

From memory it featured the clip of him from early March where he said he'd shaken hands with the patients. I think that was the Mash report, though I could be mistaken. I'm guessing given that he's currently in intensive care the BBC are conscious that the sections could upset / be in appropriate, especially in the event of his condition worsening.

A round up of how the US networks may deal with things - pretty much the same as here with the dilemma over whether to bring shows forward or push them back, not really knowing when normality will return. I guess one advantage US networks have over the UK is their network drama is usually only filmed weeks in advance, compared to drama here where usually a whole series is in a can a few months before it airs.

The writers strike in 2008/2009 is a good example. Once the deal was struck, they were able to get new episodes airing within a month.

A small insight into how BBC video interviews work courtesy of Joe Lycett:

Any news on how his consumer show, which is back on C4 on Friday night, is affected. Presumably that is usually filmed very close to broadcast or even live (can't remember if it had viewer interaction last year).

I think it's already in the can. They were filming a piece in Cardiff in January.

Yeah, he mentioned in his interview that everything was filmed before lockdown.
