What do we class as the first proper Christmas Advert, an advert for a shop, an advert for a product, or an advert for a DVD?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that Air Wick, or is it Haze have been advertising their range of mulled wine and winter fregrances with the Scrooge being surprised by the ghost who decorates his house advert that was used last year.

This afternoon I spotted an advert for a new Christmas Noddy movie that they're releasing.

But this morning, when I first woke up (i may get this wrong), but I saw a Boots Christmas Advert. I know that they were first last year, but was it this early? From what I saw it was a man lying in a hospital bed, a christmas choir were signing and then he threw snowballs at them to shut them up. Without my glasses on the man reminded me of Harry Hill, though it most probably wasn't!

So is this the start of Christmas? Does it then lead on with all Christmas CD's and DVD's selling themselves, then Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Woolworths, M&S, BHS (who apparently have a campaign this year), and so on and so forth until Toys r us, and Coca Cola advertise?

It most probably was Harry, he was in another Boots ad the other day as a doctor throwing snowballs at a group of carol singers from what I remember.

I know how you feel. Soem of them are so nice that they get me over festive.

Middle of November is fine by me, as everywhere is christmassy, all shops and shopping centres put up their decorations and things begin to get started, and even some wierd people have decorations up!

Perhaps Britain could do with a major holiday late November that we could all enjoy!

I know that it's only an advert for a christmas catalogue, but i still don't want it. It ends with the boots logo in a bauball doesn't it?

I can understand the adverts, in a way that Harry doesn't want Christmas now so gets rid of the choir, but why the bauball?

There's a Christmas Disneyland advert that has been on since last week, I have also noticed Family Hampers making the odd appearance on the ITV News Channel at some point too. Though by the end of the month it will be more likely that there will be loads more.

Though I don't think it will be long for the supermarkets for their Christmas campaign, I know Morrisons/Safeway, Asda and Tesco have had Christmas stock in since the Summer and it is slowly expanding.

Well just in case you were expecting more Prunella Scales and Jane Horricks Tesco ads, don't - they've been axed in favour of these new product on white background type ads. Not sure what's going to happen for Christmas.

Last year Tesco started its Roger Moore ads around mid-November - so not too early.

On ITV1 Granada then there were 2 adverts that I haven't seen before, one was for Index and their Christmas catalogue the other one was for Morrisons, but it wasn't Christmas, it was 'Reason 150 Million or something'; freshly baked pies. I'm not looking foward to their Christmas ones, all we are going to get is 'Reason 2,524,652,789,629' (or something similar)

Though it would be interesting to see the Tesco ads, as there's no music or action in the current ones, it will be interesting to see how this applies to their Christmas ones.

Haven't seen the Index one, and I don't want to yet if it's christmassy, but i've seen the Fresh Pies one.
My favourite out of the set is the wipes for wet trolleys when it's raining and they focus on the baby's frightened face as it's lowered towards the trolley!
It's a clever campaign to take their slogan 'more reasons to shop at Morrisons' and actually show you the reasons. At least they're better than the bloke going round and interviewing people about their jobs.

The Tesco campaign should be really interesting based on the current ones, I presume it will be along the lines of "bauballs, shiny, some made of glass, some shatterproof, all great value".

Asda's will be the usual lowering of prices with the staff around the store. Sainsburys will be interesting, on all of their boxes and strips behind the prices of christmas items they have like a star design, not a snowflake, more a star. I loved last year's with the fairy guiding Jamie to Sainsburys through the snow, but god knows what they're going to do with him this year.

I used to love the celebrity Woolies Winter Wonderland ads. Christmas only starts for me when I see the famous Coca Cola truck advert (although last year it came out quite early)

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's those damn Christmas hamper adverts that seem to come out just as summer is finishing... They're already advertising for next Christmas even before we've had this one!!

I suppose it won't be too long before we see a "Magic and Sparkle" advert.. (M&S).

Both classics. It began to be a great theme with the 'In the Lane, snow is glistening' coming on, it was so christmassy. Especially how they created an outdoor scene for a couple of years set at night with snow blowing around a Woolworths store and all christmas lights everywhere, especially with that theme tune, very magical!

I hope that they will do something really impressive like that this year with Woolie and Worth. Maybe they could do Woolie & Worth going to the store to do their christmas shopping. If only they could bring back 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' back as the background music.

The Coca Cola is great. I downloaded it last year, but I haven't watched it because of it getting me christmassy.
I'm going to try my hardest to get into the christmas spirit this year. Mother said that I won't get it back until I have kids of my own, hopefully I can just put myself back into my childish mind!

I think it's because there's nothing I really want. If there is something I want I can save up for it and have it any time of the year!

As a Tesco employee, I can reveal that they are planning to show last years prunella Scales christmas Ad, but with alterations and moderations. prunella scales has lalso made a final ad which is due to be shown next year. Mind you, the way Tesco operates, anything is possible and their plans can change from minute to minute! looking forward to Christmas on the checkouts though! (Not)
