I see BBC TWO NI is using the 'fluffy' clouds original version of the Laughing Snowman ident, rather than the 'solid' clouds version introduced last year on Network. Did they do the same last year?

They did. Wales and Scotland (when not showing the Network's feed) also show the original, non-solid version.

Network are now showing the laughing snowman cloud ident!

Yes, but which version? It was the solid clouds yesterday.

For the past two days they've also been showing the previously mentioned 1998 Christmas ident before Vintage Antiques Roadshow. Today however they showed the laughing snowman ident with solid clouds.

It it just me or is the inspiration for the BBC One Christmas ident music from "To Love Somebody" by the Bee Gees? Very Happy

Well they wouldn't dare use a festive tune!

I thought that's what it was.

I find the ident a bit boring already and a bit dreary. Not one of the classics.

I have to say, although it's obviously much better than the last 2 years, it isn't the best ident since records began like many were proclaiming when it launched, I think people were just over excited that BBC1 had actually gone to any effort this year.

I agree it's ok, but had this come along in 2011, the reaction may have been different.

I know I'm late to the party, but loving the BBC1 idents - the best in years! Almost as good as 2010.

BBC2 Christmas pres never seems to age either despite this set being around for several years.

I do like them, but I think Snowball is still my fave from this era of BBC One.

After a re-captured upload at TV Ark, it's stuff like this which really makes me think - as nice as this year's efforts are - nothing will ever match the creativity and imagination of the 80s-early 90s presentation. I've watched the clip below far too many times over the last couple of days...

Works fine when I click it. I've always found linking to TV Ark to be a huge pain.

It's supposed to link to the first junction on Christmas Day 1989 with the toy town animation on BBC1. It's in the What's New section.
