Just to be pedantic, I think that one got a final outing at 5.35 on 27th December so Andi Peters could say goodbye to it from the Broom Cupboard.

Wow. Thanks Steve! I was working in a Supermarket that year so only recall seeing the regular ident in the evening.

Did the network have New years eve Idents?

Last year was the first ever year New Year idents were used.

When was the last time they held them back until Christmas Eve - I'm guessing probably the final balloon ident?

The last balloon ident to start on Christmas Eve was the 1999 Santa hologram one.

In 2000 (Santa in the balloon) they started on Friday 22nd December.

In 2001 (the Aardman dog/balloon/dinoasuar idents) they started on Friday 21st. These were the last Christmas idents of the balloon era,

On a similar note when was the last one that was restricted to just 3 days.

A recap of the transmission dates of all the recent Christmas idents would be useful if anyone knows them.

1997: Wednesday 24th Dec - Friday 26th December (12 Days of Christmas)
1998: Thursday 24th December - Sunday 27th December (Red Bauble) Monday 28th was a Bank Holiday but regular ident used.
1999: Friday December 24th -Sunday December 26th (Northern lights Santa) Mon 27th and Tuesday 28th were both bank holidays but regular idents used. After 26th NO Christmas presentation was seen or used again.
2000: Friday 22nd December at 7pm - Tuesday 26th December (Santa in Balloon)
2001: Friday December 21st - 1 January (Aardman cosy Christmas ident)
2002: Saturday December 21st - 1 January (Snowflake Children )
2003: Saturday December 20th - 1st January (Snowflake Children)
2004: Saturday December 18th - 1st January (Bouncy pudding Children)
2005: Saturday December 17th - 2nd January ( Christmas Tree Children)
2006: Saturday December 16th - 31st December (Snowball)
2007: Saturday December 15th - December 31st (Snowball and penguins)
2008: Saturday December 13th - January 1st (Wallace and Gromit)
2009: Saturday December 12th - January 1st (Doctor Who)
2010: Saturday December 11th - December 31st (Cul De sac)
2011: Saturday December 10th - January 1st (at 7pm) (Celebrity Cake)
2012: Tuesday December 11th - January 1st (Showtime Curtain)

Just one slight amendment needed there Wicko.

The 2004 ident (children on Christmas puds) was actually used all the way up to and including Monday 3rd January as that particular date was a Bank Holiday.

Thanks argeybargey. Now you mention it, I remember it going on for ever! Was it the 3rd Jan announcement that Duncan made that informed us it was the last time an announcement would be made from TVC? Or was it on 31st Dec?

Presumably without the Christmas tree in the middle? They've regularly shown that ident since 2007, it's a standard ident now. Although granted it's been a while since I last saw it.

Just to be clear, the Christmas (bauble) version was used for Christmas 2007. The non-Christmas version was first introduced in 2008 (with a soundtrack that reminded me of George Formby on his ukulele!)

I see you're in Northern Ireland. The BBC presentation dept there like to do things a bit differently to network.
