I understand all Asa’s reasons for wanting to throw in the towel after all this time. And I appreciate he hasn’t wanted loads of speculation re GB News. But there’s been nowhere to discuss the stuff we DO know. And I’m hearing there are still some big names to be announced. One of which people would really want to discuss.

There is a place - Metropol247.

You could start a thread to discuss upcoming signings, whether it's too left-wing or right-wing, and so on to your heart's content.

However, this is a place for discussion primarily of presentation-related issues. Straying away from that too much caused the GB News thread to be closed and it may have been a small part in Asa's decision to close the forum.

I’ve not visited metropol in years I think it was because I found the place intimidating and if you said something wrong on tv forum you’d end up with bad comments about yourself Sad

I’m sure it’s a friendly place now though Smile

That is why it's never been the solution to "off topic" chat here - it only seems to exist as a place to slag off members of this place. It's toxic - and in recent times that toxicity has sometimes spilled over here and perhaps had too much influence at times.

Been interested in TV presentation since I was a kid when BBC1 (as it used to be OK to call them) was identified by that smoky globe, Yorkshire TV was rocking its first corporate ITV look and Channel 4 was just about to do-away with fourscore on its idents.

Finding the original TV Home on the internet was fun - I finally had a way to geek out on TV pres pieces from beyond the five channels I could get on my aerial, some of the images from such exotic lands as 'Anglia' and 'Westcountry'.

Eventually, I started lurking and then participating here on TVF. Different username back then - didn't get banned, just lost the password! - but was a regular viewer even when not posting.

I'm really sorry that this site is closing, not least because I have racked up a scary number of hours on these pages.

Thanks to Asa for providing this playground for all these years. Thanks too to everybody who has participated and especially those who has humoured me on my own ramblings.

I'm not surprised that Asa has decided to call it a day, I had got the impressions from his interventions of late that he perhaps wasn't enjoying it as much - but I can't say I blame him. I run another forum on a totally different topic and, yeah, sometimes having to clean things up does get you down.

Since seeing this thread appear, I have been thinking if I can do anything to keep the conversation going. As I already run a forum, I think I might be able to - or at least, I am willing to give it a shot.

I have set up a discourse instance at https://community.boxbabble.com. If anyone wants to discuss TV pres and related stuff there, I'd be happy to host.

It's a bit rough around the edges right now - but I'll try and add some polish as we go.

Metropol gave those with grievances to air them there keeping our waters clean. It is odd in an age where we are told to be kind it's OK to actively slag of members from here on there.

I say that as recently warned poster for being rude here.

I mean... there's plenty other threads than TV Forum Watch. Plenty of other branding chat, politics discussions, and transport things in the last year. Also Radio.

Comments about your posts only take up 1.5% of posts in TVF Watch. Given you are this site's most prolific poster, with more posts than the next two users combined, I think you've got off lightly?

Well... It will be sad to see the demise of this forum. Like others, I've been a long time lurker and have spent many hours on the site. Ive joined Liams page, hopefully that or somewhere else can be a replacement for us all.

I have read the news about TV Forum and I thought I would think about what I am going to say for a few days now.

It's utterly saddening to see that this forum is being closed down. I have never been a massive expert in television presentation or the more geeky stuff but this site has allowed me to learn so much more than the basic stuff that I used to not even understand. I have watched this forum evolve since joining here a few years ago and it has been a privilege to watch us discuss the latest developments and big relaunch threads. I have also recently enjoyed contributed to the big political event presentations when I am online and signed out as well as discovering many key threads that are fantastic such as the BBC News, Sky News, CNN presentation and the best of the all, The Sport Thread. Without these key threads, I might have never known about the history, some of the old shows and even the minor sport rights pickup that I have always been so interested in. And also, I have loved the gallery. There are many creators on there that are better graphic designers than some of the actual ones that actually design graphics for TV, and these designers have got a bright future in them if they ever asked to make real life graphics or presentation in the future. It's so amazing to see life pick up there as we enter the last days of this site.

I would like to congratulate Asa for a fantastic 20 years of running this amazing site and forum, you have created and found an audience that is engaging and passionate in discussing the way TV looks on our screens and elsewhere and we will always be thankful for what you created and helped us all grow an understanding in. I would also like to thank all the mods and admins who also help run this place and keep everyone happy on this place as well as dealing with odd numpties who have tried and failed to bring us down. Many of us with look at this place in the future as discover what an amazing geeky community we were and I hope those who browse this will learn so much from TV presentation in the future.

But whilst I am so sad to see this place closing for new posts in the future. I am not as sad to realise all is not lost and to see the news that a new forum and our likely successor is going to be launching straight after this site reaches it's end at the end of March. I'm really happy to see TV Live Forum will be opening on the 1st April and this will be a welcome April Fools present that is real. The closing of TV Forum but the opening of TV Live Forum reminds me of all the relaunches of ITV breakfast shows that happened over the years. This is like going from Daybreak to GMB but in a really positive and exciting way. Maybe we can have a live discussion when it all happens then? XD But in all seriousness, I would like to congratulate Rob for starting this exciting new adventure and I would encourage every user here on TV Forum to join the new TV Live Forum. I cannot wait when the new forum opens. It will be new, exciting but familiar to all of us and we can keep the conversation going on there for all things TV presentation. I hope that we will also be able to relaunch some of the popular threads that we currently have on TV Forum and continue the chat there.

But until then, that's all for now and I will see you lot soon and as one era ends, the next will always begin soon. Smile

Not a particularly nice vibe on there. I’ve read some awful comments about people from TVF, and it didn’t seem to moderated as vigorously as this place. I actually fear for those who’ve been cruelly dissected on there. A bit of a one-stop shop of pedantry and tragedy.

General chat is far too hard to moderate, and that was even back in the day before all the recent divisive events. These days if we still had The Lounge, Asa would have packed it in years ago.

Like many, I've been here for far too long and it's been a daily thing for pretty much the whole time.

I haven't been a regular poster, but hopefully what I have posted has added something. This site kindled my love of the industry and I'm very happy to work in the technology side of the streaming biz thanks to the knowledge and geekery I've picked up from here.

All I really want to say is thanks, Asa. When a labour of love becomes more of a labour then it's time to hang the hat up and move on, so I can only respect you for that.
