A second earthquake in Nepal, and Victoria is showing viewers "some memes" of a photoshopped Ed Miliband dressed as a clubber on holiday in Ibiza, presumably pulled off Twitter and Facebook. She's now trailing something to do with Channel 4's Benefits Street programme, coming up in the next few mins.
This sorry excuse for a "news" programme is making me very angry indeed. The News Channel is no longer free to provide breaking news. The programme is too slow and too reluctant to break from its pre-planned agenda to cover big stories.

Well, I first saw the earthquake thing as the top story on the BBC News website at 10:50 or so, switched on the News Channel on TV and the first mention was at 10.05 in the news headlines. There might have been more time spent on it. I don't know. I'd switched over after 15 mins of it not being mentioned except for on the ticker.
I thought it mustn't be that big a story then, but Sky were rolling with it and it remained the top story on the news website.
Maybe my expectations are wrong, and I shouldn't expect breaking or rolling news at that time of day, just "lovely memes" instead.

The slow death of the News Channel I think.
I still maintain that the best way to get the point across is to complain to the BBC. If every person in this thread who dislikes the programme complained to the BBC, then there's a much better chance of something being done than just complaining here.
Make an official complaint, contact Points of View, contact Newswatch - there are so many avenues that could be pursued.
Wouldn't it be better during breaking news to actually cut back to the news studio (there seems to be somebody around) and announce to viewers they will be remaining only on BBC Two for the rest of the show?
Or perhaps just scrap Victoria altogether on the news channel and output World News?

Whilst there might be someone to deal on screen with the breaking news there might not be the technical crew to support that. Having said that on this occasion BBC World might have been the better answer anyway.
