Last July, the BBC announced that Derbyshire – whose departure from Radio 5 Live had just been revealed – would host a daily TV programme on the BBC News channel.

No further details of that programme have been announced in the intervening six months.

However, I can now report that plans are well advanced for Derbyshire’s new show to be simulcast on not one but two TV channels: BBC News, and BBC Two.

Sounds promising, and long it it covers Lorraine, JK Show AND This Morning, at least part of it.

Not sure I like the sound of this at all. If, as the article says it is going to be simulcast from 9.15-11, and is intended to inherit Breakfast's audience, that presumably means that we would not get a proper rolling service on the news channel until 11, which seems a mistake?

I suppose it'll help with savings by not having the double headed 8.30-11 shift.

In return, Breakfast should stay newsy until 9.15. I suspect VD will have segments for the headlines and weather.

An open goal for Sky News personally.

Well it wouldn't be a simulcast if it was only on one channel would it. /pedant

What do we think will happen to Simon McCoy and his various co-hosts?

I thought the BBC said a while back it said it was getting rid of double headed presentation to cut costs?

Has this happened yet?

I was thinking to myself recently that it would be better to do it from 11am-1pm.

It gives a good lead in to the News at One, is very similar to what her slot time was on 5 Live - 10am-noon, and plus this at the moment on the News Channel is single headed.

The current arrangement with Simon and presenter starting at half 8 works perfectly, since there's lots of rolling news, press conferences and alike starting first thing. It leaves Breakfast an outlet to do 45 minutes of softer content. Everybody is a winner.

Something like Victoria's show would work better when the news day is more established and the news channel has already created a few leads and top stories.

I can't help but feel this is a bit of a step backwards. I guess from the article that we'll find out sooner enough.

Agreed. But if it is to come from Studio B, they can't do 11-1.

Unless they plan to also have business updates during VD's show, the first biz bulletin would be at 11.45am.

Steph McGovern from Breakfast may be asked to do an extra biz bulletin at 8.45am to compensate.

Once again, they said that they would be reducing the amount of double headed presentation.

They did not say that they would be "getting rid" of it.

The 11:00-14:00 slot is now single headed.

It also seems a lot more common (though still not the norm) for double-headed slots to be single-headed if one of the presenters is away, rather than using a relief presenter.

Timing doesn't surprise makes quite a strand for BBC Two from 0915-1300

0915 Derbyshire
1100 News Channel
1130 Ex Weds World News
1130 Weds Daily Politics - PMQs
1200 Daily Politics

Has a couple of knock-ons though ,,,
News Channel Feature repeats at 1030 lost
and arguably more important a considerable loss of daytime In-Vision Signed time which will need slotting in. Could this be moved to the afternoon or be moved back to overnight?
