Ratings for day two, slightly up on BBC Two with the programme doing well,

But the news channel has taking quite a hit

Wednesday 1 April between 0915 and 1100 BBC News average 0.129 Sky News 0.55
Wednesday 8 April between 0915 and 1100 BBC News average 0.71 Sky News 0.113

That may be a one off but its quite a switch

Isn't 0.71 higher than 0.129? Confused

Sorry corrected now

Wednesday 1 April between 0915 and 1100 BBC News average 0.129 Sky News 0.055
Wednesday 8 April between 0915 and 1100 BBC News average 0.071 Sky News 0.113

So bluntly - Misery Derbyshire is a gift for Sky News.

Compton in this interview at least puts a credible argument for the show, which baffles me why she wasn't put up for The Media Show rather than Victoria who was on the defensive.

However while the media analysts appeared to like the new format, nothing was mentioned ether by Olly Mann to Ms Compton or the analysts over the lack of rolling news features to comply with the NC's service licence.

What have the viewing figures been like compared to Sky News for the rest of the week? Does anyone have access to these and would be willing to post them?

There were fewer mentions of 'lovely films' today, which I think is an improvement to be celebrated.

She didn't quite know how to finish off the program today, she seemed to finish a couple seconds early talking about Monday's show being in Newcastle - so just kept repeating very and ending up saying "have a very.. very... very.... very.... good week-haha-end-haha"]

Also was just thinking of the possible cover presenters for this program: Martine Croxall I think could be who I'd chose to cover.

Louisa Compton mentioned it once during the media podcast Londoner posted earlier today, so they're both singing from the same hymn sheet.

Remove the Election from the Agenda, then I suspect the make-up will change, a near two hours on Radio can be filled fairly easily, doing the same with visuals will be difficult with a fixed programme. It wouldn't surprise me to see it cut in length, to an hour, closure would be an epic embarrassment that would be avoided at all costs. More rolling news will be needed to fill too.

Still mystified as to why it was ever considered as a long-term venture.

Compton did give some insight into how harder it is to prep for a tv show. A feature can be sorted out in 5 mins on 5 Live, where as on TV, it can take half a day to sort out.

I'd personally like to see it cut to 45 mins from 0915 to 1000 with the rolling news returning at 10 using the mid morning presenter who starts at 11 currently. This way, the VD show can be treated like any other NC back half hour show.

I don't see this venture working at all. It's out of place on a rolling-news channel.

I Agree-I can see this either going all together within six months or just going out on BBC2 as it just doesn't work on the NC-and i'd even go as far as putting Simon McCoy back where he should be and have the early shift start at 9:00 (after Business Live which is due to come to the NC in June.)-as the saying goes if it an'it broke, don't fix it.

I received a reply from the BBC Complaints dept regarding the output on the News Channel.

Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with regards to Victoria Derbyshire on the BBC News Channel.

I understand you were unhappy with the programme we chose to broadcast. I appreciate you feel it interrupted the News Channel's schedule in a negative way.

We’re naturally very sorry when we hear that members of our audience are not enjoying some our programming output. We try very hard to produce a wide range of high quality programmes and services which we hope will appeal to our audiences. However, the BBC is a publicly-funded broadcaster serving the whole of the United Kingdom providing programming to a hugely diverse audience with differing tastes and preferences.

This means there will always be some programmes that do not appeal to some people and this is the nature of broadcasting whereby we are serving many different people with many different expectations. I certainly do appreciate that Victoria Derbyshire is not to your own liking, but would say that it represents one individual show and therefore just one small part of a very wide range of programming across our channels.

I will, nonetheless, include your feedback on our daily report which is made available to all senior management and programme editors. Your opinion is important to us, and is essential to the performance of our service. Please let me assure you that you are crucial in current and future decisions made within the BBC.

Again, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Kind regards

Molly Dobbin
