Have to say I prefer Sky News Arabia's soft set. Really don't like the portrait screen either.

It's not as nice as the Abu Dhabi set but I imagine the budget was much smaller! Only thing I'm not keen on is the white bit on the main desk section - is it hiding a screen?

Eammonn Holmes said something of new graphics on his twitter page, so far I havenīt seen any changes, or does he simply mean the new sunrise logo on the plasma screen?
"SkyNews Sunrise is getting bigger and better., tune in between 6-9 AM to see the new set ,graphics and gizmos unveiled this morning."
I believe he was (attempting) to use an iPad for the newspapers this morning, so that would be the gizmos. Perhaps the graphics will be expanding beyond just the logo on the plasma.
There were a couple of new graphics today, 1 is pictured on the previous page displaying 2 twitter names and the email and text is now on the same split graphic, other than that it seems the same
Not keen on the screen being portrait all the time but it was amusing watching Eamonn with the iPad, The new Sunrise logo is a bit boring too, they should do what they do for Boulton & Co and others for going in and out of breaks and the little animation before the normal graphics appear as at the moment its just a logo used on a screen which hardly animates, I always liked the fly round the Sunrise logo in the old style
There seemed to be less promotion of Twitter this morning, Usually during the papers they display the Twitter names of the guests and the general Twitter account, today it was on the text and email graphic
Do we know if it's the same sofa recovered or a new 1?, I noticed on the last 2 days of the old set that they only used 1 sofa so that makes me think 1 was either being repaired or recovered

I really quite like the new shoebox. With the deep blues and bright reds it seems like a
very
traditional Sky News set to me, and a return to typical fare after the more neutral palette of the 2009 design.
That said, I was surprised to see how big Eamonn's desk is (appears to be enough room for two); a definite point of differentiation from Arabia's counterpart, whose is clearly designed for one.
Like others I'm not especially keen on the portrait plasma. To my eyes the orientation looks fine when there's a graphic to show, and is preferable for reviewing newspapers, but it just looks plain odd when the new Sunrise logo is shown because of the empty space.
I think it's a limitation of the shoebox that anything they put in there will appear a little *cosy* on air - it is a shoebox after all. I haven't seen Arabia's configuration on air, and am basing my judgement solely form Joshua's photo on the previous page, but being situated on an open 'plateau' - with unrestricted views of the surrounding news center - definitely benefits it.
It's good to see Sky News' presentation continue its upwards trajectory. Who else remembers Sunrise being presented from the heights of the mezzanine? And whose bright idea was it to present Sunrise from the elbow, an area of the studio not even remotely conceived for sit-down presentation?
Thankfully, Sky continue to improve on Sunrise's presentation year by year.

They must be training people up tonight as I don't think the overnight team know how to do the graphics properly, 2 bits of breaking news in the 11:30pm press preview were on 1 line and chopped off at the end and now into the 1am hour the same thing has happened twice yet they managed to get it right once in between
Does anyone know why the white bar continues off the screen but the text always stops usually mid word when it reaches the end of the normal graphic safe area? Why not just let the text run off the screen too as it looks a mess when it cuts it off sometimes for 1 letter, most people can see slightly more screen anyway these days, it would look better whilst they put it onto the normal 2 lines
From a presentation point of view I still prefer the 2 line SD graphics to the single line HD graphics
They should think about bringing Skynews.com or Technology Unplugged back too, even if its only on a friday as that used to be a totally different 30 minutes to an hour from the normal output each day

At the beginning of the week, I really wasn't sure on the red sofa and in especially the new graphics on the large screen. Within three days, it has really grown on me and now, I don't see why I had an issue, it looks much better than before and the only thing I'm not overly keen on now is the portrait screen although that's not a major issue.

Agreed, I really love the new set. For some reason it looks far more inviting and homely than the old set. An excellent alteration.
