New BBC Singapore studio

I thought that splitting it from the main thread might be nice... (July 2015)

I know my eyes are playing tricks on me... I've paused that clip and strained my eyes repeatedly (sad i know)...
...am i seeing a CATWALK?
...and surely not a Furio Track? (Bottom Right)
^DEFINITELY WISHFUL THINKING

Realistically, as they have converted office space into a studio i am expecting something similar in size to Millbank.

One thing for sure its going to make a massive difference to the programming they are able to produce in Singapore.

Newsday colours.
The titles and stings are not in HD and they have a black border to them like as if its being broadcast from Singapore. *

Indeed the format is also the same as it was in Singapore, with it still not using the full titles (it uses the shorter sting music and a smaller part of the titles instead), and after the headlines it repeated that same sting music, cutting to the logo slide rather than the wide shot as would be used for World Business Report. I thought the format deviations were Singapore's doing, but it seems they're being maintained rather than the format matching World Business Report.

Lets just hope that there are changes for the format when they're in the new studio. Singapore wide shots Cool

Hopefully they get a fiber link to the Singapore bureau instead of dealing with the satellite delay. At times it seems like they over compensate for the delay where the anchor in Singapore starts speaking before the London presenter finished.

Also that video showing the final bulletin from Singapore it looked like they send only one video feed to London. If they get a fiber link they could send back multiple feeds and have the producer to London choose which shot is best if indeed the new studio is as large as we are led to believe.

Also I'm surprised at the odd framing of that graphic on the catwalk in the London studio. The graphic looked 16:9 but was pillar and letter boxed on the 103" plasma. Surely there must be a screw up in the Viz Engine (I assume they use Viz to power the monitor walls).

I also don't know why they'd play out the stings from Singapore especially since the control room is surely decommissioned by now? If I'm not mistaken the graphics and video from BBC World News America is played out from London.

I believe you are correct. I presume that it is a fibre connection to Washington due to the multiple HD feeds being sent back to London?

Singapore used to produce ABR independently of London while Studio C was doing the back half hour for the UK, so had a gallery capable of doing the whole programme.

IIRC that was because they could output ABR directly to RedBee. It will be interesting to see what capabilities this new facility has and if they can reinstate all the back half hours to being exclusively for the UK.

Would it be technically possible to run Newsday or even possibly all the overnight news bulletins from Singapore independently of a London Gallery?

They just previewed the new studio on Newsday. Unfortunately I don't have images so my description will not do it justice. It is more spacious than the previous set and looks similar to the London studio with a desk and a standing area. Those who loved the skyline view from the old set won't be disappointed as it also includes a much wider window with a different view of the Singaporean skyline.

So it seems Singapore no longer has a cupboard for a studio, as they repeated the feature just now and I'm very impressed! A fairly big studio with a real view!

For a studio that is currently only used for a few hours a day this would seem quite grand - could we perhaps see more programming from Singapore in the future?
