There's a hell of a lot going on graphics wise on CP24. Yuck.

I'm assuming LL Management's decision to rearrange the deckchairs (again) was based on research, or at least some feedback from viewers (now that they claim to have some)?

Its designed to be viewed at a glance. CP24 is shown in waiting rooms, buses, trains, taxis, stores, offices. Everywhere! When it was created by Citytv they called it an enriched screen format. Today they describe it this way: Simultaneous with a "regular", full-motion newscast, CP24 screens perpetually update "information at a glance", showing the date, time, immediate weather conditions, the day's forecast, a "Four-Day" synopsis, current traffic flow from 118 Live highway cams, newswire headlines, a sports ticker, stock market quotes and the status of key exchange indices. Though the look of the graphics have changed and matured over the years its been basically the same successful format since the late 90s.

This was CP24 a few years after launch. it was taglined "The MegaCity News Channel" At the time CP24 and Citytv's CityPulse News was mother and sibling and it simulcast all of the CityPulse broadcasts. CP24 stands for CABLEPULSE24. It might be graphical information overload but its highly successful, and its viewed as a constant watchful reporter and immediate go to news source for Toronto. It lives and breathes Toronto. Reflecting a day in the life of the city. Its almost like they literally cover everything happening in Toronto. I guess its better than a fluffy "knowing and celebratory" broadcast that does nothing to inform the public about the immediate world around them.

They did some recent research on LondonViews about LL content where the arts/entertainment question was asked about what news content they should offer.

While I'm not a fan of the 'enriched screen' I do think LL needs to pep up its news presentation.

Titles, music, delivery - all need to shift up a gear or two.

Personally I think Live from London is a mistake. I would have continued with the 5.30 news, put Made in Chelsea on at 7 and added another news bulletin at 8 or 8.30.

CP24 also features the best bit of architecture ever seen in a TV building:

Didn't know about it when I went there, turned a corner and ... is that a truck coming out of a building?!

The graphics are quite yucky and it seems very in your face at first glance, but I've spent a lot of time in Toronto and people do regularly have it on on TVs in the background. It's the same with The Weather Network. Canadians don't seem to be as obsessed with tv as their U.S. neighbours. They treat CP24 andThe Weather Network in the same way Brits treat radio. It's a background thing. CHCH in Hamilton has a similar on air look during newscasts.

My first post in a long while. I happened to tune in to London Live News this afternoon for 5 minutes. Haven't seen it in months.

Alison Earle was interviewing someone about recommended restaurants. This person was recommending nothing but Vietnamese cafés in Hackney. Earle concluded that Vietnamese food was indeed beloved by herself and fellow hipsters.

It's almost sweet that LL is still desperately, suicidally, maniacally trying to attract the demographic that deserted it last year to the point of near-bankruptcy.

How is it possible that LL is still on the air?!

Since when does one need to be a hipster in order to enjoy Vietnamese food? London is famous far and wide for the diversity of its ethnic restaurants.

Firstly, solely recommending one type of restaurant in one area is hardly diverse - the epitome of hipsters flocking to the exact same alternative lifestyle.

Secondly, "ethnic restaurants" is a bit of an odd term; restaurants describes them perfectly well.

I enjoy Vietnamese food, and I have neither a beard nor tattoos. I'm not commenting on the diverse nature of London's restaurant scene, I'm commenting on LL's continued and sustained pandering to an extremely niche and specific demographic that has nearly caused its financial destruction.

London is indeed "famous far and wide for the diversity of its ethnic restaurants". Shame LL only tells us about ones with a Hackney/Shoreditch address.
