So he hasn't even had the decency to turn up on time to this.

The camera appears to be about 15-20 metres away from Cummings. Still, you can't be too careful.

Who is that using a power saw in the background?!

That’s what it sounded like. I presume it was a protestor. I totally distracted me from what he was saying. It stopped eventually thankfully.

I’m guessing it’s an activist in the street, the equivalent of the bloke who used to shout ‘Stop Brexit’

The news special has been extended right up to 6:30 now. Quite extraordinary. How much of the BBC News Channel has not been simulcast on BBC One or BBC Two today.

Any reason why this had to be done outside, and with journalists present? What's wrong with inside No. 10 with journalists present via video link.

The dynamics of it are extraordinary, he's sat down, while the journos are stood up, looking down at him. I've never seen anything quite like this 😳

I’m guessing they didn’t want it to look like a Government briefing so needed a more informal location. Also there were calls yesterday that journalists should now be there live, following the issues with the zoom feeds yesterday.

He isn't an elected official so they think doing it in the garden gets around special advisors giving press conferences on government property, even though it clearly doesn't.

Indeed outside Number 10 might be more justifiable - I know it's fenced off but possible the road itself counts as a public right of way.

That said though guess it is acting as a bit of a trial and outdoors is generally considered safer than indoors. With Jacob Rees Mogg ordering the end of the virtual parliament from next week I suspect the briefings may follow suit to go with the message that it's safe to go back to work with distancing measures applied.
