I don't know if it's being used at that time for WNA rehearsals but it's the big bureau in that part of the world and is a full studio (like Singapore). Maybe Babita Sharma could do it while she's there as she's got business experience and is in DC? I'm not saying NY can't be used but I would have thought a complete studio is better than an insert studio.

For a show about world business, why not co-present a show from arguably the biggest financial center in the world if you can? Sometimes the news has more to do with, you know, content, rather than with whichever studio looks nice.

Yes I agree but DC is better equipped for full broadcasts than NY.

It's like in SE Asia the BBC have chosen Singapore when they could equally have used Hong Kong or Tokyo to host Newsday and Asia Buisness Report but they use Singapore because of the facilities. There has to be a practical element to a broadcast. (It's just a coincidence that it's a big financial centre. As are the other two I mentioned.) DC is also a major financial centre, it has the Federal Reserve (one of, if not the, most important central banks in the world), the IMF, the World Bank. It may not be important in the market world but as far as the institutions go, it's one of the centres.

Keep in mind there may be potential tax credits involved that the BBC may have gotten to stay in New York. For instance when Jimmy Fallon was getting ready to take over for Leno, NY State and City created a bespoke deal to bring the show to NYC.

Likewise here in Maryland our legislatures worked very closely with the producers of House of Cards to keep them from decamping in Baltimore and moving to Hollywood.

Also the BBC may wanted to keep their main Asia bureau out of Hong Kong due to media censorship in China even though it's "autonomous" and Singapore is much more centrally located for their SE Asia business hub. Singapore is also in a much more developing region as well.

If the BBC are getting a tax break for co-presenting a business broadcast out of NYC, that is a VERY BADLY targeted tax break by local authorities!

For what it's worth, I don't imagine tax treatment has driven the BBC's decision to place Michelle Fleury in NYC - it simply makes sense from a news-gathering perspective to have US business news covered out of America's undisputed financial hub. Yes, Washington DC matters for politics - but America's financial heart beats in New York.

There was a time where Michelle Fleury was based in Washington DC, with other correspondents based in New York. I can understand that it's easier to interview the big names in New York. Maybe the BBC need to invest in a studio in New York (or at least if it's possible use DC as a relay).

Is the link between Washington and London fibre?

I understand where people are coming from, and agree that a buisness programme about the US should come from NY but just also trying to think practically and where the better studio facilities are, which gives us a much better viewing experience! Something we've found with Newsday since the move to new studios in Singapore.

The 2130 GMT edition of World Business Report was for many, many years presented from both London and New York. There were never any issues about the size of the studio then. It would be stupid for a financial news programme to be broadcast from Washington DC - that's the political centre, not financial.

RT's Boom Bust initially came from the main DC studios, but is now split between DC and a smaller studio at the New York bureau.

Very distracting changes in background from New York behind Michelle Fleury. I'd just keep it to the NYC skyline - simple.

Delays aren't too bad at all between London and New York but I don't think the programme flows - it feels a bit piecemeal at the moment.

Would it be wrong to say the second edition of Business Live with that kind of format might work better on BBC News Channel at 9 pm in the UK because:

-the 3-minute summary would allow the separate audiences to get news suited for them and there would be enough time to fit in part or a whole report on a top story
-US markets close at that time and US business and economic issues are of interest to many in the UK
-a number of UK business or economic stories would be relevant to a global business audience

They could make it a 60 minute edition (Business Edition used to be that long in 2010? 2011?) or have HardTalk following a 30-minute edition.
Apologies if I'm going a bit off topic here.

I've never liked the idea of a Business programme in the front half hour. Business Live would be better at 8:30.

Contrary to what the Wiki says i dont ever recall Business Edition being 60 minutes long. IIRC when it was 'World News Today: Business Edition' it was 40-ish minutes long and followed by Sport Today at :45 and then some Filler. IIRC it was on at 10pm with World News America on at 11 or Midnight.

Unfortunately over the years a bunch of bloody vandals have removed all the important information from the wiki pages so they are now beyond useless.
