However, if bringing newer younger faces in is part of modernising the look of BBC News to make it appeal to a new, younger audience that's a good thing (especially as i've harked on about that in the past and the presentation has moved on).

And that is the only plausible reason I can find to why Tina was put on the rota for tonight. She has been a 'golden girl' for the BBC recently, co-presenting the disastrous Crimewatch revamp which led to it being axed and was a reporter on the BBC's Royal Wedding coverage.

Tina would be taken a lot more seriously if she changed her delivery to something that isn't Newsbeat, however they let Steph McGovern on Breakfast and Watchdog with her toned down Teesside accent, but the latter has some gravitas.

Other TV Forum members on here, including yourself know how much i've gone on about BBC News in particular needing to modernise its look and presentation since around 2009/2010. The revamp in 2013 went some way to sorting that out with standing pres and latterly the additions of the Derbyshire show (which some on here loathe I know), Afternoon Live and Outside Source to the schedule.

New younger faces should really cut the bread and butter on the News channel or World News before making the step up to the nationals. That in turn would help keep the news channel fresh with younger talent sitting alongside the established faces of Simon and Jane and allows for a new steady pool of faces to come through the ranks for nationals cover. It's kind of like they're playing a high speed generation catch up, which should've started several years ago.

The only observation I would make about Tina's delivery is the way she introduces a package and then looks down at her script before the VT is on screen which looks a bit awkward. Looking off to a monitor (fake or real) would look more natural and put her in a better position to react if the package fails to appear for any reason.

On the point about younger faces, I won't be so indiscreet as to post Tina's age here, but being the same age, I have to say it's a while since I've been described as "younger" Smile

I wouldn't say this is a thing unique to Tina, as some presenters like Nkem and Carrie often do this when they are presenting for World News and News Channel respectively. Nkem, in particular, does that more often and noticeably than Carrie at times, but it's just something some presenters prefer to do and you learn over time (imo) to avoid doing it (as Carrie has rarely done it since returning to NC).

Ben is better suited to Breakfast than straight news in my opinion (and I expect that he will replace Charlie whenever he chooses to leave, if they continue with 2 male and 2 females as the main presenters, considering Jon Kay is appearing less and less frequently ). Simon McCoy seems to have been rather sidelined since he moved to the afternoon shift which is a shame. I can see why the BBC are choosing to keep Joanna at a lower profile at the minute but she, Annita McVeigh, Martine Croxall, Simon and Christian would all have been better choices than Tina. Its also a shame that Katty Kay has never had the chance to present the six or the ten on her various visits to the UK.

I wonder whether he is appearing less and less because, as soon as you (or I) think that, or even go beyond that and express it, he turns up again on Breakfast this morning. I think presenters have stopped presenting, after they've been absent for a little, and, as soon as I start thinking that, that seems to be the moment for them promptly to appear again and continue presenting, usually then more regularly than they've ever done before.

Krupa has been with the BBC for quite some time and can be heard on radio. She last presented on BBC World News around 5 years ago when Outside Source was originally launched from Studio J. She was Ros Atkins’ original replacement presenter one day per week, IIRC.
