However, if bringing newer younger faces in is part of modernising the look of BBC News to make it appeal to a new, younger audience that's a good thing (especially as i've harked on about that in the past and the presentation has moved on).
And that is the only plausible reason I can find to why Tina was put on the rota for tonight. She has been a 'golden girl' for the BBC recently, co-presenting the disastrous Crimewatch revamp which led to it being axed and was a reporter on the BBC's Royal Wedding coverage.
Tina would be taken a lot more seriously if she changed her delivery to something that isn't Newsbeat, however they let Steph McGovern on Breakfast and Watchdog with her toned down Teesside accent, but the latter has some gravitas.
Other TV Forum members on here, including yourself know how much i've gone on about BBC News in particular needing to modernise its look and presentation since around 2009/2010. The revamp in 2013 went some way to sorting that out with standing pres and latterly the additions of the Derbyshire show (which some on here loathe I know), Afternoon Live and Outside Source to the schedule.
New younger faces should really cut the bread and butter on the News channel or World News before making the step up to the nationals. That in turn would help keep the news channel fresh with younger talent sitting alongside the established faces of Simon and Jane and allows for a new steady pool of faces to come through the ranks for nationals cover. It's kind of like they're playing a high speed generation catch up, which should've started several years ago.
