^ I was just coming to post that. Was surprised to see it. Wouldn't be surprised her appearing is related to Hala presenting the show this week, they seemed friendly on Twitter before.

Can't say i'm pleased with the new presenter refresh. I'm not a fan of Clive, Annita, Joanna or Ben. Also no business news. BBC News is slipping, time to find a new news provider.

I'd like to put it on record that I think Mike Embley is brilliant.

Worth mentioning that Jeremy Paxman has made his first Newsnight appearance of the year. He's been of filming for a new programme he's doing. It's been interesting to see how Newsnight would survive without Paxman there week in week out. He's going to have to retire some day. It just hasn't been the same without him. Newsnight is Paxman if he's not there then Newsnight wouldn't be Newsnight. Kirsty Wark would be a nice replacement, she's been on the programme nearly just as long as Jeremy. But she is 58 and she has spoke about opening a restaurant when she leaves broadcasting.
Newsnight might be better of with a younger presenter. Paxman started when he was around 40. Wouldn't be a better idea to have Emily Maitlis as a new lead presenter? Or perhaps even someone completely different.

If I had to choose a replacement, it would definitely by Emily. Wouldn't mind Jon Sopel giving it a go though.

I agree than Jon is ok. But is 3 decades just too long hosting national news programmes like NN? In the US, most network news presenters last in their posts no greater than 25 years.

Oh no, please don't let Jon Sopel anywhere near Newsnight. I really don't like him as a presenter. In fact I turn BBC off everytime he is on. He comes across as very rude. I remember a few years ago, he was presenting from outside Westminster for a special event, I can't recall what it was, and when he finished talking to someone, he told them to shove off as there wasn't much room on the platform they were working from.

No, anyone but Sopel.

Eddie Mair, Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel would be a great team for Newsnight. It doesn't need 4 presenters. Mair three nights, Maitils the other two and Sopel as stand in. And move Esler to Newsnight Scotland, getting rid of Gordon Brewer. Smile

On NC, which slot/shift is the "flagship" slot/shift or more coveted to be in? In the US, we know they put a premium on those who are at the 20.00-23.00 (ET) hour. Prior to the introduction of simulcasts of the 'nationals,' I had the impression Jon and Louise' shifts were the "flagship" ones but howabout now?

It's the secret slot where their rota isn't obsessed over by weirdos. Everyone is desperate for that one as it comes with a lock for your wheelie bin.

So was it Simon & Carrie this morning normal time? Who's doing 11-2? No access to TV this morning.
