BBC Broadcasting House Newsletter 24 - Project Update from July 2011 posted:
The year-long fit-out of Broadcasting House is now at the half-way stage, with progress well advanced on all floors. All the radio studios are built and currently undergoing technical fit-out. The construction of the Radio 1 studio on the 8th floor is well advanced and all edit suites, control rooms, clip studios and meeting rooms are structurally complete and awaiting finishes. Tea points and break out space joinery is also in place and carpet is being laid on the 3rd, 6th and 7th floors. The technology fit-out is also moving along at pace, with over 200 contractors working on site across all the floors.

The July Newsletter also states that Broadcasting House will officially open in 2012, and 5,000 staff will move in over the next couple of years.

The November Newsletter seems to confirm that at least UK Television News output and BBC World Service Radio will certainly be moved to Broadcasting House in 2012. I find it odd that World News would not move at the same time as well.

BBC Broadcasting House Newsletter 25 - Project Update from November 2011 posted:
The final countdown
In less than 60 days, the first BBC staff will begin to move into Phase Two of the Broadcasting House development.
Fit-out contractors, Overbury continue to work on site to put the finishing touches to each floor ; and last month, the installation of furniture began, transforming the space into a fit-for-purpose working environment, ready for occupation.
On the newsroom floor, the set and lighting for the BBC news channel and bulletins is under construction, in readiness for the first live news broadcasts later next year.

BBC Vision on the move
In an exciting development, it has been announced that a large part of BBC Vision - which runs the BBC 1, 2, 3 and 4 television channels - is to move from its base in West London to floors in the newly developed Broadcasting House and other nearby buildings in the BBC’s W1 estate.

For the first time, production teams from some of the BBC’s best-loved factual, drama and comedy shows will
be co-sited with BBC news journalists and production staff from BBC Audio and Music, creating a truly creative hub in the heart of London.

Andy Griffee,W1 Programme Director said:“This is the last piece in the jigsaw to truly bring together all of the BBC’s main output departments in one place and create an historic opportunity to deliver an even better service to our audiences.”

The BBC’s Global News operation will be among the first to move into W1. As they prepare to leave Bush House...

Why? They do it every year, and if it's routine stuff it still needs to be done. The move's still many months away.

They don't do it every year. They didn't last year in N6, nor did they in 2008.

Well, I didn't think they did either, but didn't remember. From the way the question was originally posed, it sounded like they did.

The final push will be in the first half of 2013 as domestic tv news and the weather operation move over. In total, five brand new sets will have to be installed for the One, Six and Ten, Newsnight/World News and the News Channel.

"Five brand new sets" sounds promising. They currently only have three sets for the One, Six and Ten, Newsnight/World News and the News Channel.

Why five?! The news channel needs one... world news needs one.... the one/six/ten need one... and then one for newsnight & other stuff. Why have they put Newsnight/World News together though I wonder...!

Bit of an awkward moment there on the news channel - the intro camera panned in with Matthew and Fiona glaring into the usual camera straight ahead for about five seconds, not saying anything. The camera then switched to the right one!

In the Broadcasting House thread, I think we determined that 'sets' actually means 'studios'. At one point, one of TV Forum's reliable insiders said the five studios would be one for the news channel and nationals, one for World News, one for BBC London, one similar to TC7 and a large CSO studio. Not sure if that's completely set in stone but that's what's been said.

I believe it was also said that there was some flexibility for the News Channel and World News to use alternative studios when appropraite. Someone might have described them as base studios but that it wouldn't be unusual to be making use of another studio. I might be completely barking mad though.

Will there be maintenance in TC7 and / or N6 over Christmas this time, making NC and Nationals move to N9?

Nope, it's planned to be N6 throughout.

We'll have to rely on @UKI1091 and the @BushHouseMice for gossip then. I noticed that @BBCMosart had disappeared a little while ago.
