Whilst I know this is not necessarily wrong, one would have expected him to be astoned as "UN Secretary General", as opposed to just "UN". Or am I a pedant?

I don't think you're being pedantic at all.

This afternoon BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones described the world wide web as a 'transforming technology' when it became widespread in the early 90s. There seems to be a trend developing where reporters avoid the proper word - in this case, transformational - and just add 'ing' to the root word. Makes me seriously wonder if the latest edition of the BBC News style guide recommends avoiding words that have more than four syllables on accessibility grounds...

Can I ask why the world wide web is not a "transforming technology" (a technology that is changing), and is a "transformational technology" (a technology coming from, leading to, or connected to transformation)? I think his choice of words is acceptable.

Rory's exact words were: "then we got the world wide web, which of course was THE transforming technology".

As in, it changed the way we do things. Not that it's constantly changing.

Blue strap for Breaking News this morning on The World Today slot! New style or wrong button?

One of those rare different background moments today, looked nice.

It could possibly be a new style - I don't think blue has been used on the News Channel with this package before. I wouldn't think that it'd be too easy to change colours on a whim.

Any caps, although imagining it being blue isn't that difficult!?

The studio was also turned into a wine cellar at one point this afternoon (about 15:55).

Is the shadow on the image part of the image sent to the Barco, or, as it looks to me, shadows from the studio lights?

I do hope we see a change to the Breaking News aston, blue would work really well. Any caps?
