Eh? That's not possible, simulcast uses the same gallery who control the cues on both channels.

Oh I see. Well then, I think that the BBC broadcasts the national bulletins to BBC One and BBC News takes it from BBC One, cause It doesn't look like they are broadcasting the bulletin to the two channels at exactly the same time. Could me or the iPlayer though.

As far as I'm aware the gallery produces one feed for the news channel (with the ticker etc) and another for BBC One without the ticker. (It could produce more, but I'm not sure)

What makes you think the iPlayer streams are in sync?

Try opening multiple copies of the same stream.

Well I think it would be normal that two steams showing the same thing would be in sync.


As I said, try opening multiple copies of the same stream - i.e. in different browsers / windows / computers. Watch as they don't even open in sync, and get progressively more and more out of sync. The internet isn't very good for broadcasting real time video, so each separate instance will play at it's own pace, after a random amount of buffering to get going.

There's no way you can work out if two broadcast streams originate at the same time just from watching them over the internet.

Also whilst the BBC News at 10 originates from the gallery of studio E the paths it follows to air on BBC News Channel and BBC One differ - not least because BBC One goes via Red Bee and I don't believe the news channel does.

it will be Red Bee getting the same stream but with a different graphics output machine, ie without ticker for BBC One, it could be the bbc news channel cuts into the same clean feed and then overlay it with the usual bbc news channel graphics.

Not sure about the six and ten but other BBC One bulletins take the same feed the news channel does - which is why the end of the countdown occasionally appears at the start of weekend BBC One Bulletins.

I think there is a few of them around. They're seen in the studios at the grounds during live rugby union and league. Also at Queens and Today at Wimbledon in the past. It's quite a clever design really as it allows the overall BBC Sport to always be present with the secondary brand representing the events easily changed.

I think The Super League Show one has a slightly bigger top compared to the one(s) used by network on location.

I wouldn't say it was ugly, my only slight problem with it is it's never really matched any other elements of BBC Sport set design.

I see the BBC News Commonwealth countdowns are up and running on the channel already as I had seen before the BBC news at Six began this evening.

Love the Commonwealth countdowns. Audio mixed in beautifully with the visuals - cannon with the boom, etc.

Looks like there were a few issues with the 11:30 edition of the Papers last night, including a lack of titles, instead using some form of normal BBC News title/sting (the version on iPlayer begins with a BBC News bed audible), with the start of the programme sounding more like the plug they use after the national weather, instead of the normal 'Hello and welcome to our look ahead at what the Papers will be bringing us tomorrow'. In addition to this, they didn't cut to the graphics of the front pages straight away, so after the introductory camera move, you could then see the camera move back again and almost reset itself, with the presenter doing an admirable job of following it as it moved away at speed. The 10:30 edition shows how it normally plays out, and it did so without edition.

I also question the plug they used at the end for the headlines at midnight: 'At midnight, the violence in Gaza continues', which sounds more like a continuity announcer plug for a drama!
