Is Tim's link coming out of a report though? If so, could he not go to the DTL or the Weather Balcony, in fact anywhere bar Studio E, during the report, throw up that backdrop and do his link from there and cut to Studio E for the simulcast?

There wouldn't be enough time to get to the balcony, plus seen as they've got that backdrop in the studio, that's not really much point of him moving to anywhere else.

I never seem to catch these moments, what I happening before this shot? Is it a report?

A report was playing.

The other option would be for the presenter stand behind the desk against the glass newsroom window. I don't know if that would stop the cameras tracking in-shot mind you.

And he'd be leaving the studio anyway, so why can't he leave after introducing the report and go upstairs to the weather balcony?

ABC World News is now available on iPlayer, and also in HD, although the quality looks decidedly SD to me. The way the programme remains 'ABC World News with Diane Sawyer' but has someone else 'reporting tonight' still confuses me, as whilst I accept a name may be a bigger pull to what news programme someone in the US watches, it's a bit confusing and misleading. I also note that the copyright thing at the end of the bulletin was still (C) 2012, despite nearing the end of 2013...

No more so than The Paul O'Grady Show, with guest presenter Dermot O'Leary

You have a point. I suppose because it's not done on news programmes in the UK more attention is drawn to it.

Also, what nice music 'Review: 2013' has...

I believe we covered that topic here before, and it ended by someone saying the hosts had a significant editorial input, which is why a programme with a sub anchor is usually, I find at least, more balanced and more like a half hour of a news channel rather than a half hour news programme.

I believe BBC News tag on the copyright notice at the end in certain cases if there is an extended ending they want rid of - it seems they've just not noticed the year being out of date.

Speaking of out of date, I'm pretty sure the News Channel ran a recorded WBR from last Christmas last week. It was a review of the Eurozone and had the old titles and Tanya Beckett had shorter hair...

Played on Christmas Day

Also Boxing Day showed another special edition showing the new titles, but using the old Gill Sans Astons from Television Centre, that is available to watch on the link above also.

Good spot - I've just a rummage through the archives and the same programme played at exactly the same time on Christmas Day 2012.
