I know why they don't use E, but I understood they only need E clear for 30 minutes (they used to have N6 clear for that amount of time) which is why I was wondering if perhaps they present 9 to 9:30 in E and clear for 10 rehearsal while HardTalk was on. However thinking about it, they probably need someone at some news desk in London at all times in case of a major UK breaking story. (Attack on London, death of a major Royal etc.) so having the rostered presenter in A makes sense.

Don't the various back-half-hour programmes such as HardTalk usually start at least a couple of minutes after the true BOTH, due to the brief headline summary before hand (hence the true duration of such programmes actually being circa 25-minutes)?
Maybe the amount of rehearsal required for the Ten needs to start on/before 21:30 on the dot? In which case, there would be a clash if the NC was still in there (an on-air) until 21:32 or whatever?
The old setup with the Ten was that one of the NC presenters decamped at :20 approximately to the WN studio, presented a simulcast headline update (as overnight) and then presented domestic news for the half hour until the Ten started. I think WN went to HardTalk or something similar to avoid a studio clash.

Isn't it also the fact the gallery would be needed to output HardTalk so A does need to be used?
Yes, A is the spare gallery at that time. As I understand, they also need the gallery so the NC has to move. Can't the NC use Gallery C with WNA using Gallery A when they are in this situation?
It does seem now that they use more studios, or at least just as many, by not giving the News Channel and BBC World News a studio of their own than they did back in the day when the national bulletins, News 24 and BBC World all had their own dedicated studio.
Also, don't know if it's been mentioned, but Sportsday and The Papers will be swapping times after the BBC News at Ten ie. Sportsday will come at 10.30, The Papers will come straight after.
