I have a feeling it'll be scaled, the idea being that the reminders to get Digital will become so annoying that people will be foreced to change before it's turned off...
up to a year before switch off:
weekly remiders and editorials appaer in newspapers, listing magazines etc to make people aware of switch-off well in advance.
up to 6 months before switch off:
30sec-1min promos on the five channels for DTV on ATT only in place of some trailers, increasing in usage.
up to 3 months before switch off:
promos continue alongside still announcement slides. each ident on each channel is adapted to be overlayed with a message:
"Analogue broadcasting of [BBC One]* will end on 31 December 2006.
For information on digital alternatives please call 0800 123 4567."
up to one month before switch off:
all programmes are overlayed with the static white text caption:
"Analogue broadcasting ends on 31 December 2006."
after analogue switch off:
a full screen caption airs on all channels for a period of one month, before being switched off forever:
"Analogue broadcasting of [BBC One]* ended on 31 December 2006.
All of [the BBC's]** programmes are available through digital television - via satellite, cable or through an aerial.
For information on digital television please call 0800 123 4567 or visit www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk"
* BBC One, BBC Two, ITV 1, UTV, Scottish, Grampian, Channel 4, five (as appropriate).
** the BBC's, ITV's, our (as appropriate).

Oh, and I forgot to say last time I posted, there are some excellent mocks int his thread, but for the amount of time they're going to be on screen there's far too much text in great big chunks. The language needs to be simple to be understood quickly and words like "unfortunately" and "we regret that..." are pretty much pointless. Keep the explanation and apologies to the newspapers and magazine editorials.

My idea of what the big turn off will look like...

I think it's quite a shame that it's going to take us so long until the turn off. Many states in the USA are switching NTSC off by the end of next year, taken them less than 3 years.
When are Australia switching off PAL?
