The biggest problem with Digitalspy is that there are too many posters, on every side of most issues, who can't deal with their opinions being challenged. It's full of snowflakes.

The main difference here is that there is a bit more acceptance of differing views, however that may be because of the remit being a lot more narrow.

And now there's a thread 20 pages long full of people sulking and getting angry because their sad face button has been taken away, is this really that important to some people? I'm wondering how they coped for the 17 years the forum didn't have reaction buttons?

They're probably the one's who are abusing it.

Of course they are, why else would they be so bothered about it being gone? Though it seems the've hijacked the "laugh" icon instead, which in many ways is worse as it's basically giving the impression of sneering at posters for having a different opinion, so that one's bound to go next.

I admit I have to laugh at them claiming "there's 30-odd pages on the threas, most posts want disagree back, which is proof the forum members wants it back", when it's mostly the same few posters over and over. I imagine the vast majority couldn't care less whether they stay or go.

And I really don't get their argument that "reactions are pointless when there's only a positive but no negative"- when plenty of forums (incuding this one), and sites like Facebook and Twitter seem to get fine with only having a like option.

Which isn't going to happen at Digital Spy.

And today is both another reminder of the large number of racists that inhabit the forum, and why the reactions feature should be taken away (especially the "laugh" one)- as every racist post is getting loads of "thumbs up" and every person speaking out against the racism is getting "laughed" at.

And this racist point-scoring is clearly more important to them than the fact children have died.

Not sure what happened, the forums used to be very left wing. I can't see why they keep it going, can't see it lasting much longer, another year or two. You can't have a debate so it's pointless.

From what I remember it started around the time of the Shilpa Shetty incident on Big Brother- when that happened I remember there being an organised campaign from sites like Stormfront to join DS to defend the comments (presumably due to it having one of the biggest Big Brother forums). And it's been a haven for the far-right ever since.

You are aware that hurling slurs at them isn't exactly going to change their minds, right? Rather, it will make them feel contempt towards you and people like you. Why don't you shatter their idea that the left is filled with smarmy, holier-than-thou snobs by actually debating their arguments rather than dismissing them as mere bigotry?

If I were you, if they truly are only in it to get up-votes and provoke, I'd either ignore them or go elsewhere. The internet is full of these sorts of people and you using the Digital Spy threads on here and on Metropol to vent isn't going to change anything.

Why should I debate with the people who press the "laugh" icon (and there was a double-digit number of laughs) on a post telling people to feel sympathy for muslims who are going to be taking flack after today's events? They clearly don't want debate themselves.

It's ultimately their reputation they're harming - they have nothing to gain but you have everything to lose. If they're just there to take the p***, I wouldn't give them the light of day if I were you.

I would also suggest that claiming that those who post an opinion opposite to your own are posting under orders from Tory HQ is not necessarily the best way to go about debating something.
