Agreed. It is a tragic design.

The home page looked much better in 2003. The colours would change to compliment the main photograph, like so. I had bbc.co.uk as my homepage ever since I started using the internet, but earlier this year I changed it to the main BBC News webpage, purely because I loathe the generic baby blue colour scheme and the 'designed for the lowest common denominator' layout.

I have to agree with you there. That looks nice, but not over doing it on the shades.

On the BBC News site today they appear to have made a mistake - on the ticker at the top;

"LATEST: The search for a teenager missing since 1981 enters its fifth day at a house in Kent."

Clicking on the article it actually says 1991 (that's correct) - not 1981.

Does that imply that they waited for 16 years to start the search!?

Not to turn this into a up down thread, but bbc.co.uk seems to be in difficulties tonight. One annoying trend recently with it is the time that the flash side of the homepage takes to kick in.

The news and sport sites are also struggling but less so than the main one.

Apparently this is what the new BBC homepage will look like from January.

According to whom? I like the design and layout. Especially the clock.

Nostalgia fans will love that clock!! Looks great.

That clock is so suspect, I reckon that it's either a mockup of a probable concept or an actual factual working version offsite, eitherway it won't look much like it does here come 2008.

Oops sorry I forgot to post a link to Ryan's (I think he is a member here) blog, he works for the BBC so there is no reason to doubt him on this. Also apparently it'll be previewing from next month.

That clock is still very suspect. Of all the clocks to put on the page, I wouldn't be thinking the 70's mechanical sort.
