London Lite quoted on the News Channel thread regarding the channel's service licence . . .

Quote:
It should offer a comprehensive news service each hour, including sport, and clear,
comprehensive weather updates from across the UK. There should be a news
summary on the half hour.

BBC News Channel should aim to deliver breaking news first and, wherever possible,
immediately but not to the detriment of accuracy. In the event of significant breaking
news, BBC News Channel may also be broadcast on BBC One or BBC Two.

I'm waiting for my 9.30am news summary.

So far I'm feeling that they're trying to attract a new type of viewer whilst completely and totally forgetting about their original viewers.

I'm giving it a chance, but I'm genuinely feeling the need to flick over to Sky News to check if there's anything important happening.

And this is a perspective from a person who was a daily NC viewer at this time of day.

Very disappointed so far.

Because of the headlines at 9 - 9:15 i get the feeling we skip the 9:30 headlines until 10 because of the small amount of time. Perhaps an update at 10:30.

I think it is going 'alright' too many people in that studio though. Half that amount needed there!

People are saying 'Sky News' etc, but in this day and age, if you want news, you go online now a days and read stories on the apps etc.

Exclamation marks on a news channel graphic are always a worrying sign. I just watched about a minute of the "JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION!" feature about politicians, where Victoria proclaimed:

"Party manifestos are still to be published so we might get more details on spending plans.... but don't hold your breath!"

Um, okay then. She also helpfully explained the difference between minority and majority.

I agree that this is fine for BBC Two as a daytime programme but it doesn't sit well on the BBC News Channel. I am not enamoured at all by the dull graphics / presentation. The whole thing feels very clunky indeed.

I think we can safely ignore those few moaning that their crappy rolling news is gone so they've been forced to watch Sky.

It looks like the response to this programme is going to be quite positive. Potentially getting more viewers than previous content.

It's 5 live without the headlines, The Wright Stuff without flair and This Morning with public opinions.

A mess basically.

Did Carol present any weather on the news channel before 9am?

This wont help things, but I can hear similarities in the theme with Newsround....

Oh that's good. Everything's OK then. Those viewers who tune into the BBC News Channel for rolling news - as has been the case for the last 18 years - don't matter at all.

No they dont... which is why the BBC have decided to replace that rolling news with this programme.

Yes, she did a weather bulletin just before the 9am TOTH bulletin.
