I have come across this nice in correct order and date montage. Strangely in 1980 BBC has a computer ident and then switched back.

As you're sometimes a stickler for accuracy of information - that's wrong on both counts.

It's been confirmed the model marked as '1974' in that video was not used that year - instead, a slight variation on 1975, with 'Christmas on BBC 1' displayed underneath.

Not quite sure how you got the idea that 1980 symbol was computerised... The video shows a traditional promo animation, followed by two versions of the symbol with the revolving figurines.

Compared to some earlier years, Pres sites have had an easier time with 1980 material - TVL actually features one of the symbols on a page you've edited yourself - which might explain why your comments have so baffled me!

I know I made a mistake just after I made that post in connection with the 1980 comment, mind you I did not know about 1975 so Thumbs up for the correct information. Its nice to see other people keeping an eye on things Cool

To be fair until the actual 1974 ident video turned up online a few years ago it was assumed that the 1974 ident (the blue-ishy tinsel one) was the actual ident, obviously we were all proved wrong. The ACTUAL clip comes from a closedown on 23rd December 1974, the giveaway being the BBC1 Colour legend underneath the clock.

It would certainly seem so. They're on other Twitter slides too

So there's our element of red and, by the looks of it, our circle too Laughing

Very nice! Duncan Newmarch wasn't joking about the Christmas trees! Very Happy Also it looks like some trees are programme specific. There's a Strictly Come Dancing one with a glitterballon the top and a blue Doctor Who TARDIS tree.

Very Happy Looks like we're possibly in for what might turn out to be one of the best BBC1 Christmas idents in a long time

How interesting would it be if that image was the end board after a programme trailer was shown. Certainly a big departure from the boring full red screen with logo in the centre.

Nothing wrong with the red wipe-in, in fact it looks fresher than the current "short" idents, despite being three years older.

But yes, that would be a sight to see http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/forum/smilies/eek.gif

I get the feeling that this is going to be a good one... thank god! Wonder what the music will be like... ?

It does seem that only the awful 40 sec promo is getting used. The money seems to be on it reappear hopeful on Saturday!

They look rather nice. Let's just hope there aren't kids dancing around them!

It certainly makes sense as to why they're launching trails and idents on the same day. Having a new look pres trail alongside the current look would look disjointed. Perhaps we're getting a new look of the whole presentation style after Christmas - even if we keep the idents! It would certainly freshen up BBC1.
