How long has Norman Smith been credited as 'Assistant Political Editor'. I thought he was chief political correspondent?

It must be a new role/title but it may explain why the post of Chief Political Correspondent was advertised on the BBC Website recently.

Never seen 'Assistant' in a TV news job title before, although people do find assistant a rather demeaning job title. 'Associate' is a title I would expect to carry over from newspapers to TV though...

Assistant is common for production roles though.

Is News Channel to single headers across the board now? Presume with Matthew going Friday they'd be doing it today?

May I ask, Is there a specific date when Matthew will start presenting Global on BBC World News?

Nope just the 11:00-14:00 has been single headed recently, with double headed presentation retained (for now) on the other two shifts.

Perhaps they are waiting for when Victoria Derbyshire starts her show (November/December) before it all goes single headed.

Do we know that is actually going to happen? Didn't the plan state that their will be 'less' double headed shifts rather than them being removed totally.

I'm not entirely sure-Onto other news and (no date as of yet but) it's strike time again at some point in the future.

Norman was credited on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 as Assistant Political Editor this morning as well.

Norman's new title makes it hard to distinguish his precise role from James Landale - Deputy Political editor? The advert for Chief Political Correspondent talks about working with the Political editor, deputy and assistant editors, and will provide coverage to NC in the afternoon and early evening.

Looking through Twitter, Christian Fraser, former Paris correspondent, has updated his twitter profile as being 'Senior News Correspondent'. Sounds like a new role.

Daniel Sandford, Moscow correspondent, has credited himself as 'Home Affairs Correspondent', which I think was his old job.

Interesting also that BBC are looking to recruit a bilingual Havana reporter, so it looks like there won't be a direct replacement for Sarah Rainsford, who's heading to Moscow to replace Daniel.

Lucy Manning starts next week as Special Correspondent. Katya Adler starts as Europe Editor early next year after maternity leave. And Jenny Hill left Breakfast last week so she'll be starting in Berlin soon.

Lots of movers and shakers!

The police have deputy and assistant roles, similar hierarchy?

Please can someone put Nicholas Owen out of his mystery and let him retire. Bumbling fool.
