"MEDIA NEEDS TO BE RESTORED" fault on BBC News at 6.30 just then.

The joys of using tapeless ENG cameras when they're live on air and a corrupt card in the camera.

The long titles are better but still that awkward hold, I would there fade to a beauty shot if available.

I wish the news channel would just run the World News short TOTH titles, when they hand over to a DTL presenter at the TOTH.

Those titles which don't feature the newsroom look worse every single time you see them, with the awkward hold at the end, as the music catches up.

As time has gone on, I've just got used to the difference. Then again, I never saw the "problem" in the first place.

The thing is, using the World News titles would mean that the wrong music would have to be used, which has always sounded strange as it tails off - the drumbeat seems tacked on (and too loud).

The Queens Baton made its way through New Broadcasting House earlier. We even had some presentation from the newsroom with some great shots from the trundle cam and a camera op on the ground.

Here are my three attempts to make a better long title sequence, including one where the location shot is shown on the weather plasma.

Credits for the footage go to theidentgallery and bbcnews08

I posted this some months ago. To correct the long hold at the end of the visuals, all that's needed is an extra flying globe frame. Or simply, a wide shot of the on location presenter as the hold starts being faded into.

I don't really have a problem at all with the long titles.

I certainly wouldn't put the location on the weather screen, that just looks weird Confused

I would put it on the screen, but I'd have a closer shot. If not, I'd run it as a normal TOTH and have the standing up template loaded, so the camera pans to the screens with the OB on, and then fade to the OB.

Indeed, I just don't get the obsession with wanting to use the WEATHER CENTRE for the opening of the NEWS! If I saw that being broadcast, my immediate reaction would be "Oh look, the gallery has made a mistake yet again at the top of the hour" as opposed to "Oh look, isn't that a nice way of introducing an outside broadcast"

Whether it be a location looking weird or Simon McCoy on screen (as you suggested a day or so ago), it would just look weird and like the gallery has made a mistake again. Why introduce more complexity into a live link than needed? There is nothing wrong with the long titles, the beats of the music are in time with the globe swirls on screen now (unlike when the move to NBH first happened) and if they wanted to they could just use an establishing shot FROM THE LOCATION at the end of the long titles as the music fades out to keep people on here happy.

Something more like Newsday with two of the screens in E would work better than the weather centre screen, if you really have to change it.

The Newsday split screen is virtual isn't it?

Anyway, I hear the Countdowns will get their standard 'England Fever' look from Monday.

I thought the Newsday split screen was from the big screens in the World studio...

AIUI the opening overshot (How is that done, it would look good in E,) is of course real, but the split shot which you expect to come from the camera on the left is actually a virtual mock up of the screens as the camera is too close to be able to put both screens in shot at the same time.
