I think taken as a whole it looks pretty sleek, but I'm not sure that it would work well for indisvual shots especially at night. I'd have to wait until seeing it in action before judging.

I suspect they've taken that into account, as the BBC do when they use window-based sets for sporting locations. If the backdrops from one of the windows are Olympic venues or locations then I suspect they have lit backings at night. These guys aren't amateurs. (TV2 invented VizRT and Mosart in-house...) The publicity shots look to have been taken before the games started?
As for the close-ups - it looks as if they have the studio at a height that means there will be decent backings in the back of the main close-ups, though I suspect you'd possibly favour the wides and group shots a bit more to make the most of the view.
Looks like it was designed by this guy : http://www.anderstomren.biz/category/set-and-production/ and that he does quite a lot for TV2. Interesting that they seem to have a remote robot-arm style jib replacement (without a tracking base) - similar to the remote system that NRK installed for their News, and that ZDF have for Heute (in their underwhelming VR studio) The Norwegians have a history of good outdoor studio sets. The summer equivalent of The One Show in Norway had a great one by the Oslo Opera a few years ago.
Certainly a lot nicer than the usual NBC mishmash that might as well be in the US for all the sense of location and place it has. I never understand why the NBC Olympics coverage is set and shot like a news show. (Bloke in suit, sat at a desk, with a graphic inset. It could be the Nine O'Clock News in the early-90s)

It probably isn't all that fair to compare NRK's studio with the BBC. For Norway, the Winter Olympics is a massive deal. It's only of interest to some in the UK. However, spot on with the US comparison. The look NBC has adopted is much the same as it had 10 years ago. That was the style then but even Americans have moved on. The TV set designers there are slowly recognising this. A few of the regional sets are becoming more European. Does anyone have screen grabs from other broadcasters? There's been a surprising lack of pics from this Games. I'm quite keen to see what the other Scandinavian countries are doing.
It's still there. It's just that they've replaced books with tacky ornaments! This website has some details of the other guys, but not much. Surprised at the effort from Ten Australia. Not a country I would have expected to go big on the Winter Olympics!
As much as the BBC use the Olympic Park I do think that studio is shocking, even if it is only on air during Hazel's shift. The studios in Vancouver and Torino weren't much more than a desk and a view either, but didn't look half as cheap.

I wonder did they pick it up cheap last minute? Such a surprising lack of effort. It seems Channel Ten has two of those temporary studios, so I wonder what demand was like.
