I saw a live stream of Current TV, and it's just painful to watch... Documentaries Marathon until Tuesday 3pm ET.
Isn't the channel already considered as "Al Jazeera-owned", why don't they put AJE's coverage of Egypt?

It's terrible, but nice to see some good Vanguard episodes though Smile

1) at what time will start the broadcast of al jazeera america?
2) it will be possible to follow jazeera america live on the website?
3) as a last thing, tomorrow you will publish more photos?

thank you very much and good evening to all!

1. 3pm Eastern
2. Nope, it will not be streamed on the web. (and AJE will now be officially blocked in the US)
3. Ask the US folks here... I hope they post as well.

Very Happy

Here's hoping they stream it on the website for the launch if nothing else...

The original format of Current TV, which was around until about 2010, was a great channel. Almost the entire channel was formatted around 3-7 minute "pods," or short programs. Some were news related, some focused on music, and a lot of them focused on non-mainstream culture in the U.S. and around the world. It was also really cool in that a lot of pods were created by viewers or independent filmmakers. They reformed this somewhat by structuring them around full 30 or 60 minute shows like Infomania and Still Up. I have fond memories of watching that version of Current.

Then they decided they weren't making enough money with that model, so they brought in the TV executives who took away all the music on MTV in the 90s, and it seemed like the channel became nothing but long form documentaries about skateboarding, gangs, or the Mexican drug cartels. And when they got Keith Olbermann, they tried to become a low budget alternative to MSNBC on weeknights, which wasn't appealing either. I won't miss the Current that's leaving the airwaves today, but I do miss the original version.

Just saw Al Jazeera America's website again...
03:00pm ET / 12:00PM PT now lists "This is Al Jazeera: Preview Hour"

When Al Jazeera English launched a few years ago, they only had a short montage on Al Jazeera's moments then they had gone straight to an introduction of some reporters... then a breaking news story from Japan. Al Jazeera America must need a crap-load of persuasion to do something like this!

Also... I saw AJAm's schedule on DirecTV's program guide (they are on Channel 358, by the way), and they will air AJE programs like "The Frost Interviews", "Listening Post", "Talk to Al Jazeera", and some of their 30 min & 60 min documentaries.

I don't see Al Jazeera America being successful but I guess that won't be a problem for the Qatar ruler.

It also appears that Mariana van Zeller's report called "The OxyContin Express" will be the final program to air on Current. I suppose that makes sense, as it's what won them a Peabody a few years ago.

I also see the fully loaded schedule now. I don't quite understand the rationale in running last nights "Real Money with Ali Velshi" at 8:30am Eastern, seeing that the New York markets will be opening in less than one hour after the rerun.

Since I haven't seen the AJAM schedule elsewhere outside of the previously announced primetime lineup, here's the full day's schedule according to my Comcast box (all times EDT):

1400 OxyContin Express
1500 This is Al Jazeera
1600 News (though the press release calls it Early Evening News)
1700 Inside Story
1730 Fault Lines
1800 News (called Nightly News in the press release)
1900 Real Money with Ali Velshi
1930 The Stream
2000 News (Late Night News)
2100 America Tonight
2200 Consider This
2300 News
0000 America Tonight (repeat)
0100 Consider This (repeat)
0200 News
0230 Real Money with Ali Velshi (repeat)
0300 News (live at this hour!!)
0330 Inside Story
0400 America Tonight (repeat)
0500 News
0530 The Stream (repeat)
0600 News
0830 Real Money with Ali Velshi (repeat)
0900 News
1000 Consider This (repeat)
1100 News
1130 Everest: Deadly Ascent
1200 News
1230 Inside Story
1300 News
1330 Dhaka's Cholera Wars
1400 News
1500 The Frost Interview
...and so on.

I'm slightly surprised they don't have a branded name for the morning program. I suppose we'll see if maybe that's one of the things that my Comcast box also missed.

Still not thrilled about David Shuster anchoring straight news again though. He's anything but objective after his time at MSNBC.

I'm also interested to see whether all the ad slots will be paid for by Qatar Gas, the Qatar Foundation, and Qatar Airways, just like the ad slots on AJE.

... or those home shopping adverts that are currently airing on Current TV. I may get a laugh at those if it will still be on Al Jazeera America!

Eh, that's about the usual advertising fare on digital cable TV in the US. Even CNN Domestic (which is a must-carry channel) has a lot of strange ads for automated wheelchairs and national tax 'help' corporations, and I'm pretty sure I've seen those awful Geico insurance commercials on my feed of BBC World. But it's not like the Qataris are hurting for cash.
