Okay, so now I know it's Studio B, B1 and B2 more specifically. Smile Studio E is the twin used by BBCN. Hmm, any idea if there's Studio A or D, and what programme uses it?

By the way, where are studio B and C located in the broadcasting house? I only know E is the one on the ground floor which is very easily viewed when the camera pans downwards in the broadcasting house.

Studio A is the virtual set used by BBCN during the 9pm hour, allowing the Ten to rehearse in Studio E. It's also used by HARDtalk and Newswatch. I think someone said in the NC or BBC News Studios thread that BBC London will use Studio D in the move later this year.

Jon Sopel said on the first edition of Global that Studio B is in floor -3. I'm sure Studio C is in the same floor too?

Studio E is actually on floor -1. A, B, C and D are on -3 (though I think may be double-height).

The balcony level is the ground floor - on the newsroom shots, you can see the revolving doors from main reception above studio E.

I've never really seen Studio A, or D though, as I watch more of BBCWN. There's once I watch BBCN and I saw they weather is reported out in the open, the balcony, I think., like how Ros Atkins talks to other staff from different language departments for Mishal on Impact occasionally. The weatherperson stands in front of a display panel.

I'm wondering why is the generic BBCWN bulletin after Impact, and World Have Your Say, always broadcast from the right set of Studio B (like GMT) instead of Studio C. When do they switch back to C, is it when Newsday comes on?

D hasn't been seen on air yet.

This may answer why they use B rather than returning to C, although I'm not sure on the timings - at 1700 UK time the News Channel moves to C so that the 1800 national news can prepare and rehearse in E. The same happens in an evening, but using A at 2100 because Newsnight are preparing in B.

World News revert to Studio C at 1830 UK time for World Business report and then World News Today at 1900 which you can see on BBC Four. Newsday doesn't start until 2300 UK Time, if you're sharp eyed you can see it on one of the screens above Studio E on TOTH.

I have gotten a picture of the studios..
is the studio on the left most Studio C? Are they all adjacent: C and B?

The left most of the picture is the tail end of the Studio B "(2) part". Studio C is something different.

That is a 360 degree picture of Studio B. The left hand edge is simply the other end of the set you can see on the right. The set is based around two circles...

Studios A, B, C and D are physically separate spaces surrounded by walls in the basement. They are, like most TV studios, just boxes with lights in the ceiling. They are relatively close to each other - but are totally separate spaces, to allow them to operate independently (you wouldn't be able to operate Studio B and Studio C simultaneously if they were sharing a single space unless there was huge amounts of sound deadening between them)

Studio E is the odd-one-out as it is in the newsroom and has a glazed wall of windows that allow you to see into the newsroom.

Yes - D doesn't have a gallery at the moment, as it was designed to work into the BBC London gallery which is currently configured to work with the studio space The One Show are expected to move into.

As I understand it BBC London are moving into Studio A and will be using Studio A's gallery temporarily.

This will allow BBC London's gallery to be reconfigured to work into Studio D (and I think it is likely to be re-equipped to more closely mirror the newer galleries in use in A,B,C and E)

Where's BBC London's current gallery based - is it on -1 in the main newsroom, with the galleries for the other main studios, or actually in the Peel Wing? And where abouts will the new gallery go for what will be TOS studio?

London's gallery is 2nd floor Peel Wing with their radio studios and newsroom. I believe the TOS gallery is currently being built opposite gallery B, which is on level B2 just below the main newsroom.

Studio D is still being used as a workshop and storage area by one of the SIs, we are talking several months work to bring it into service.
