Live at five with Jeremy
Matthew Amroliwala & Jane Hill in the afternoon... I'm not sure. Made the shift seem more important than the lightness we got from the days of Maitlis and Sopel. Hmm...

Well if lightness is what your after in the afternoons why not turn over to Kay Burley on Sky News? Laughing

If Martine's on the late evening Friday shift and Chris is on weekends, it would appear Tim Willcox no longer has a 'regular' slot on the NC, though I understand he's now got a regular slot(s) on WN? I wonder as well, with fewer overall shifts and no business news, how much of Adam Parsons we'll be seeing?

And regarding Maitlis, I think it actually shows she's a very versatile presenter. Someone like Annita McVeigh is very good at serious news, breaking news and live interviews - but she's the same whatever she's presenting at whatever time. I think evenings, for example, need someone who handles stories a little lighter - I don't mean comically, but not so in-your-face. Julian Worricker and Martine Croxall are both perfect for this. Emily, on the other hand, can handle the Sopel banter on an afternoon while handling the Five O'Clock news as well as Huw and Newsnight easily as well as Kirsty or Gavin.

I'd much rather have Emily and Ben on the lunchtime shift - I think they work better than Joanna and Ben do - and I suspect Ben would be better on the papers than Clive is. There's just something about Ben's on-air demeanor in a studio that doesn't fit with serious daytime news. As much as I miss Chris from the papers shift though - and I do, I think moving him from that slot was an unfortunate decision - I think Clive will grow into the role. He's actually been showing some personality in recent weeks, and you'd struggle to argue he's not a great journalist and interviewer.

Chris Eakin is a loss to late nights - must admit I'm not loving Clive Myrie but he'll settle into it, I'm sure.
!

Not a big fan of Clive but Chris used to be beyond dire doing the paper reviews. With the increased emphasis on the paper reviews now, I think it was the right move.

You might have had a point if Emily did the slot on a daily basis but with Newsnight and the nationals, she mostly only ever made the odd Monday appearance. With Louise and Jon gone it's was to time to put stability in that slot.

Chris Roger is on BBC World News right now, surprising that Peter Dobbie only presented on Saturday...

Anyone who still had any doubts that Eddie Mair is one of the best interviewers at the BBC may well have had their mind changed after this morning's Andrew Marr show.

I loved Eddie Mair today. His interview with Boris was great. BoJo was squirming when Eddie was pressing him about his past. Loved it when he called him a "nasty piece of work."

Yes, in fact I remember always racing home from school in about 2000/2001 so I could tune in for the 4:00 pm bulletin on News 24 with Matthew and Jane. Contrary to what scudamoret says, there always seemed to be a lot of breaking news in the 4:00-5:00pm hour back then. I remember being about 15 or so myself then and being frequently frustrated that I couldn't capture video clips depicting a "normal" hour at that time! Sort of stupid now when you look back!

It's not stupid at all. I'm 15 now and I always try to run home as quickly as possible to tune into the news channel. Especially on Mondays when I new that Sopel and Maitlis were on. I don't mind Matthew and Jane, I suppose they are the best pairing to have on that time seeing as Jon and Louise no longer work on the channel.

I wonder if we'll see him speaking any Spanish anytime soon.

Well considering the two official languages in Cyprus are Greek and Turkish, then probably not.

Yes, I know that. I have been to Cyprus on holiday before (luckily, before the money problems).

But when he's been on location before - he's used it as an excuse to speak Spanish. Wink

You really should beep when you reverse that much! I don't believe for a second that that's what you were getting at. The chances of him finding a Spaniard in Cyprus with any sort of knowledge of, or opinion on, the financial crisis is almost nil.

Well, you're wrong Mystic Rob, that's not what I was thinking.

If you'd of read my ammended post you would see that I've been on Holiday there before.

It was supposed to be an amusing comment, I'm sorry you didn't see the funny side of it - April however, did.

Now, back to what the thread is supposed to be about. Who's going to be presenting the evening shift on the News channel today?
