Chris Eakin on twitter has said he's presenting Saturday and Sunday afternoon, this weekend at least. I wonder if Maxine's reduced her hours on Sundays? I had hoped Sophie and Chris would do Friday afternoons, as that might have meant a Maitlis-Brown Monday, but I guess not. I wonder who will do the Friday afternoon and early-evening slots?

It's a shame Chris and Sophie didn't get the 11-2 slot permanently instead of just today. I find both presenters much more watchable and better together than Joanna and Ben (of course they haven't presented together from the new studio yet). I find the latter two to be a bit flat and boring.

I must say that Carrie and Simon have been great this week - if anything the excitement of a new studio has made their partnership even more appealing to watch. They really are the golden couple of the BBC News Channel.

I think Chris and Ben are both well suited to late evenings (as is Martine), where Clive doesn't have the same onscreen persona to pull it off. Though it'll be nice to see more of Chris during the day.

Is Matthew on his own this afternoon?

EDIT: Jane's there as well. The same pair doing a 5 day week. This must be a first. Shocked

Jane has been on this afternoon too! It's her first five day week in a long time surely?

Yes, but quite possibly a one off due to launch - it's quite likely someone like Emily might do Mondays normally, for example, we know Sian is still on Mondays but Sophie has done the full five days this week.

Also Julian presenting at 6.30pm, so looks like this is his new shift for Fridays.

Really glad we've now got Julian Worricker on Friday evenings...

I think the new system works, one week into it. The people who have waited their turn have finally got a place on the regular line up and the people who have stayed have been the right people.

Chris Eakin is a loss to late nights - must admit I'm not loving Clive Myrie but he'll settle into it, I'm sure.
Simon McCoy & Carrie Gracie were of course going to stay on mornings - who else? I just fear the day when one of our beloved pairing leaves!
Ben Brown & Joanna Gosling might be able to fit in with the brunch breaking news, but I'd rather there be Annita McVeigh in there who is heavily underused on the quiet early evening shift.
Matthew Amroliwala & Jane Hill in the afternoon... I'm not sure. Made the shift seem more important than the lightness we got from the days of Maitlis and Sopel. Hmm...

Weekends: God knows.
Maxine definitely on board plus Chris Eakin and Martine Croxall.
But what about Nick, eh? Have they let the lovely old man go? Probably - and hopefully - not!

That comment made me chuckle; we're obviously in different age groups. When I first saw News 24 many years ago, Matthew and Jane always presented the late afternoon shift. I've never been able to get used to them at 11:00 am and Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis just seemed wrong in the afternoon to me. I have to say it feels like old times again having Matthew and Jane doing the afternoon shift. It's probably one of the best changes they've made.

I'm 16 and I knew of the fact Matthew and Jane had done afternoons before...
I've always just found them perfect for the 11am broadcast - not because it's how it was when I got into all this but literally because they always did a breaking news story justice... press releases, Leveson, the lot!
Afternoons... ever since the hour ended with silly stories it always seemed to me as if the afternoon shift should be light hearted and Maitlis and Sopel gave us that (but unprofessionally!)
I miss Louise Minchin on the News Channel, plus Emily Maitlis from evenings which, in my opinion, was alright for her - it was the cross between afternoon light and serious Newsnight late. When will Maitlis get it right, eh?

Totally agree. Matthew and Jane have always been late afternoon to me. It feels like a home coming seeing them back on the afternoon shift.

Yes, in fact I remember always racing home from school in about 2000/2001 so I could tune in for the 4:00 pm bulletin on News 24 with Matthew and Jane. Contrary to what scudamoret says, there always seemed to be a lot of breaking news in the 4:00-5:00pm hour back then. I remember being about 15 or so myself then and being frequently frustrated that I couldn't capture video clips depicting a "normal" hour at that time! Sort of stupid now when you look back!
