For those interested, this Soap Box report from today's Daily Politics contains some really good shots from inside the newsroom of NBH looking fabulous in action. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21161942

It was also really good to see BBC World News from NBH, it has a really good feel.

Tomasz says that the Weather Centre will have a mixture of LCD Screens and CSO panels that can be switched from blue to green and back instantly. Supposedly he, Kirsty McCabe, Liam Dutton and Matt Taylor prefer CSO to Monitors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that the One Show was moving to W1. Is this true? If so where will it come from?

Also, if it is (Yes, I am aware that Breakfast is staying in Salford and not moving back to London) would it not have made more sense for Breakfast - a News Operation - to stay with the rest of News, and have the One Show move up to Salford as it isn't part of News Confused

I'm reliably informed that if One Show were to go to Salford it'd be seen as a slap in the face to the Mailbox BBC staff, as although not necessarily produced by them it was 'their' programme first.

Not sure where you got that information from... The One Show pilots in Birmingham were produced mainly by a production team from London - and exposed limitations in the Mailbox infrastructure. (Green rooms, make-up and dressing rooms were all in the Ramada, production facilities were from a Visions OB truck parked in a loading bay). It became pretty clear after a month of pilots that producing the show in the Mailbox all year round really wasn't feasible.

After 5 years in London, I don't think the Mailbox have any claim on it being 'their' programme. The reality is that a move to Salford has been rumoured a number of times. However a lack of decent quality celebrities has always been a strong reason not to move it. After all, The One Show is currently the UK's most watched show featuring celebrity interviews, and it's a key part of its format.

No as they needed a big production to make up numbers. The One show production team was far too small to move.
Breakfast is a big 'in house' production in comparison the vast majority of The One show vts are made by outside producers. They only have a small team in London

For most of what Breakfast does it's irrelevant where it comes from, a reporter in Cornwall doing a live into Salford is no different to one doing it into London. The same with the reports, with modern production systems video can be sent across the country very quickly and it doesn't matter where the package is cut.

Guests are the only difference and they're a small part of the programme

In terms of The One Show moving to NBH it's scheduled on the intranet to move there in late summer this year.

I believe that this is still subject to council approval to change the short term usage of what is supposed to be the BBC shop in to a permanent studio. (BBC London using it was only approved as a temporary measure).
As one insider also pointed out, the BBC have just "sold" the old radio café to an independent coffee shop. It might be difficult to hide the branding of a Starbucks or Costa directly behind the presenters window.

Certainly the CSo booths are more private than the 105" Panasonic Plasma which is in an open area of the newsroom.

I'm trying to get my bearings to where The One Show was slated to come from.

I was at BH yesterday, and popped in for a quick warm drink from the new Media Café.
As you look out over the atrium and the news gathering area below, directly opposite you, in front of the 2nd entrance is a small glass walled 'box' with a red backlit border on the top of it - was this supposed to be The One Show studio?

In the newsroom? That's not Studio E is it? (News channel and nationals)
