And the most obvious one was missed out entirely.

Dear, oh dear...!

However, this reminds that there may genuinely be another one - a 2-shaped hole - that wasn't mentioned earlier; possibly the most overlooked... If you can find an actual video of it then you probably deserve an osmium medal, because I'm still waiting to see a clip to this day.

Nice to see them using the stings based on the trailer endboards again - there was one in the 6.30 junction.

Do you mean the bumpers? They've popped up at points today, and periodically on the whole. But the actual stings - the short alternates and takes of Seascape, Tent, Mirror etc - pretty much aren't being used anymore, regrettably.

Just thought this youtube vid of BBC Two presentation on the 10th July 1991, still very early on in the 'Big 2' era. The most interesting thing for me is that Paper Cut Out is not only still in use, putting paid to t hetheory that it barely lasted a month or two, but that it's used with no music and a generic "This is BBC Two" announcement into a political broadcast. I don't think I recall ever seeing other idents of that era used in the same way and in a way, Paper Cut Out served the role was the plain ident for super serious things rather well. There's some other examples of idents and slides too.

There was a theory that it only lasted month or two? I always thought it was around for most, if not all, of 1991...

Oh, and the other vaguely window-esque ident I was referring to the other day: Berlin Wall.
If anyone finds a vid of that, please do post a link...

Wikipedia reckons December 1993. I'm not buying it personally.

Wasn't it Crystal Ball that only lasted a couple of months because the '2' only appeared for a few frames?

Apparently. I have no memory of either Crystal Ball or Paper Cut Out. I remember every other main ident from the 1991-2001 era. Yes, Crystal Ball was a bit unfortunate, as it's actually I nice ident, I feel, both visually and musically. I'm curious about it as it was introduced alongside a lot of lighter toned idents such as Car and Fluffy Dog, yet it looked more akin to the original set, making me think it may have been planned for 1991 but never made it, only to finally get an unsuccessful trial over two years later. It's unfortunate, as I feel it would've worked better with the 1997 'BBC TWO' logo, which would've made the problem of the two not being very prominent less of an issue.

Not remembering Paper Cut Out surpises me a bit though. I remember being obsessed with the 1991 idents as an 8 year old and started doodling them in my school books, yet I can't remember Paper Cut Out for the life of me, although as an 8 year old, I'd probably have found it boring and not missed it when it quietly slipped away. But if it lasted until 1993, as some sources suggest, then I surely would've remembered it, so I'm very curious about this ident and how long it was used for.

The more likely thing is they'd take inspiration from the set and basically create a new set of 2's without the branding restrictions they've had for the last couple of sets. It could work, but to be honest if they were doing that I'd kind of like them to go back further and maybe look at the stripe logo or cube and create 21st century variations of that.

You've just reminded me that I did make this a while back...

The stripe logo... Did you mean the 1974 or 1979 there?

It was. Saw it for a few days and then it vanished. Shame too as I thought it looked good and liked the music but they were right about the 2 not being easily seen. Still think they should have kept it longer.
