while Meridian's changing to ITV News South would evoke memories of Southern and TVS, the very reason why Meridian is called that in the first place.

I really can't see that evoking any memories outside of this forum.

People still call the local news Southern TV anyway half the time.

Thought so, surely it'll get a refresh then? Having a similar theme for 9 years is pretty poor.

I'm surprised they didn't revamp the theme tune in November 2009, when they revamped ITV News

Hope they don't drop the Granada Name as it would be the last nail on the coffin, I notice looking at TV Arks Gallery even the Granada TV sign on the side of the building has been left to be covered by the hedge etc.

On a side note, anyone know where this photo is taken? http://hub.tv-ark.org.uk/images/itvnorthwest/itv_northwest_images/gallery/granada_tv_january2010_2.jpg and is it still there or has it been removed now too.

That photo was taken from Lower Byrom Street in Manchester, it's around the corner from Quay Street, the rear of the Coronation Street set (the Roy's Rolls end) backs onto that street and onto the Museum of Science and Industry, I've not been down there since late 2011 and last time the neon G was still there, but probably not for much longer.

It's the little tower next to Coronation Street, you can see it from the street round the back of Granada.

YOu can see it here on Google maps street view (though you can't see the logo very well as it's obscured by trees):

There are definitely plans to streamline some of the regional news names around the country to try and provide a bit more consistency. For example, I'm fairly certain ITV News London will replace the more traditional London Today and London Tonight, and expect similar changes in other regions.

Interesting - always felt when the HTV brand was dropped they should have gone with ITV News Wales rather than ITV Wales News - just flows a bit better IMO, and looks better than "ITV News Wales News" as it appears in the titles now.

I'd have thought the logical thing to do if they're expanding the ITV News brand is to have the breakfast, lunchtime and late bulletin under the "ITV News Region" brand, but keep the names of the flagship 6pm show.

Ah memories of "HTV News on ITV1 Wales produced by Carlton"...

All this rebranding malarky raises a curiousity...

At the moment you have the channel identity "ITV1 Wales", as displayed totally irrationally below:

and a separate corporate identity "ITV Wales":

Will there just be one ITV Wales brand for both the corporate side of things and the channel, or will they look different?

Since the corporate logo and the main channel's logo will now be the same, I guess the regional one will be as well.

Why on earth were ITV1 Wales airing a promo with Come On England on it? Confused

The lunchtime Anglia News bulletin just started with the presenter saying "Good afternoon, first this lunchtime from ITV News in the Anglia region..."

West Country Tonight's Twitter account has been renamed "itvNews West Country" although the actual Twitter address is @ITVWestCountry

It would seem more appropriate to rename it ITV News South West, as they tend to describe themselves as ITV News in the South West on air and on their Twitter account.

When they talk about ITV West Country they tend be be referring to the old Westcountry region, ITV West tends to be used when referring to the old HTV West region, but ITV in the South West is used when describing both regions.
