Definitely Titanic orientated tonight. Firstly, the regional pictures have been replaced by Titanic related pictures in the opening titles of South Today. No iPlayer clips unfortunately.

Also, BBC South opted out of A Question of Sport this afternoon and replaced it with a regional documentary. Yes you heard me right. A documentary about the impact of the Titanic sinking on the port of Southampton, where a lot of the crew was from. It was truly excellent and was presented well by Bernard Hill (Captain Smith in 1997 movie Titanic). More info at the programmes page here

So although BBC South didn't have the same budget as BBC Northern Ireland, who also made a good effort - see this thread on the TV Home forum, it was nice to see a region put this effort in. Nice to see more practices like this.

I worked on that Smile Glad to see it was well received, not had a chance to watch it yet but the snippets I've seen look good.

You can watch it on BBC Souths youtube page here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1xkqaeLkGs

You should have flagged it up before broadcast rather than after.

EDIT : Surely the YouTube channel breaks all kinds of BBC guidelines. Adverts on a BBC programme paid for by the license fee? That can't be right.

Can someone explain to me why BBC South Today is still carrying Brighton stories ?

Tonight was a piece about a murder in Rottingdean,

Since DSO last month, the transmitters that serve the Brighton and Hove area have been relocated to BBC South East. BBC South cannot be received terrestrially in the suburb.

Brighton has been receiving BBC South East Today on Sky 101 for as long as I can remember.

That's why both BBC South East and BBC South both covered Brighton. I supposed Brighton is still a local city to viewers of BBC South so it could be relevant to their audience, even if they don't live there.

Yes, at least five years, maybe longer. (Freesat 101 is the same too)

I could understand it, if it was Portslade, which is on the west side of the city, but with South Today's geographical area already ludicrously large, do they really need to pad out the show with material from an area east of a city they don't serve anyway !

Stories from Brighton & Hove will still be relevant to ST's viewers in Worthing, Littlehampton and Burgess Hill, not to mention those in the town who have their aerials pointed at Rowridge or Findon.

However there is another problem where VM customers west of Hove now have BBC South East instead as they source it from Whitehawk.
