Okay! Why does News at Six come from a different studio

Before 2008, BBC World News used N9 exclusively, BBC News 24 had N8, and the BBC One Bulletins were broadcast from N6. TC7 was used for Breakfast, Working Lunch and Newsnight. This changed when they all played musical studios in 2008 and N9 was mothballed.

As the 6 & 10 require rehearsal time it means the studio is occupied by the programme for around 30 minutes before the programme starts, so as N6 is the News channel studio, it means they have to vacate.

So whilst rehearsing the 10, the NC moves to World News' studio for 30 minutes.

The reason the 6 is in TC7 is because it causes least disruption, and the studio is empty at that time of day. The 10 cannot come from TC7 as Newsnight are doing their rehearsals.

The One could also not come from TC7 as originally Working Lunch broadcast from there. Since then, the 1 is now produced by the NC team and so does not get rehearsal time and is broadcast from N6.

Hope that answered your question.

Yes and N9 is still sometimes used when the need arises. If the NC is carrying some important story when there is a BBC1 bulletin coming from N6 then it will sometimes be used. It is also used if either of the studios are having maintenance carried out on them.

N9 - currently mothballed, occasionally used when maintenance is being done in other studios etc.

Unless the NC is following a breaking story at the time of a BBC One bulletin, in which case it would either simulcast with WN from N8 (if it's an international story) or provide continued coverage via N10 (or is it called N0?) the CSO studio used for Red Button headline sequences/BBC Three 60 Seconds)

When have they ever used N10 on the NC? Do you have an example? When I've tuned in, in that sort of situation, they've gone to the simulcast instead? ( N8, they used the other week for the Whitney Houston funeral!)

Excuse my ignorance and sorry to digress slightly but what are the baking trays (if that is the name for the platform where the desk and chairs are) for? Surely they would manage without them

Yes, that's what they are.
