North Korean state television has announced the dead of Kim Jong-il today. CNN US has joined CNN international for live coverage.

Who are the anchors on duty on World, CNNI and Sky?

If Babita Sharma is on BBC World, it will mean yet another major breaking event during her watch, after Gadaffi and Bin Laden, etc.

Well she tweeted about it...

"@BabitaBBC: #BBCbreaking - Kim Jong Il has died - LIVE rolling coverage on BBC World News & BBC News Channel"

And retweeted this...

"@RichardWGordon: Bit zonked after 2 solid hours in the gallery outputting @BabitaBBC @BBCWorld output on death of #NorthKorea #KimJongII"

So it looks like she was.

BBC News and Sky news are showing live images from the funeral in Pyongyang, if anyone's interested.

I'm glad my holiday to North Korea isn't for a couple of months.

Do you know if the radiant Ri Chun Hee is invovled in the state broadcasters coverage?

On the Sky report they had the state broadcasters audio at one point, with the narrator nearly breaking down in tears. It sounded like a man, so I don't think it was Ri Chun Hee crying.

BBC News used an interpreter for each of the speeches during the memorial service as well. Don't know whether this was the case for other broadcasters. Who is this likely to have been, a BBC employee or agency?

The voice you were hearing was indeed the voice of Ri Chun-hee. She deliberately delivers state propaganda like a man because a deep voice commands greater authority. Chun-hee appeared sporadically on the live feed last night looking solemn and mournful. All a facade of course; her background is in performing arts and not journalism.

Incidentally, when the feed dropped out a few times, we briefly got to see the Pyongyang Earth Station D P R of Korea colour bars. The Earth Station is North Korea's link to the outside world: http://www.northkoreatech.org/2011/02/07/pyongyang-earth-station/

Until today, I was glad to see the Beeb had finally grown up, and were showing the 4:3 North Korean pictures uncropped and unzoomed as a pillarbox image (12P16). However, someone is obviously back from their holiday today, because we're back to the usual crop and zoom mode of them Confused

There are probably more people who get annoyed when they do it the right way than do when they do it the wrong way. If that makes any sense.

Was she presenting on location or in a green screen studio? Stood up or behind a desk?
