I've always thought the set looks nicer, brighter and bigger from that angle, it looks really good. It's going to be a shame once they vacate to N6. It will be interesting to see what BBC World do with the space though.

Hopefully they will get rid of the "three sets in a row" arrangement that has always compromised the camera angles on guests and presenters looking at the projector screens on the main set. Hopefully they will also replace the projectors with either Barco cubes (though they'd need to replace their cameras for these to work) or plasmas.

The current set looks better than previous ones on wide shots (apart from the overhead camera that is soft, overused, and very noisy when tracking) but some of the main guest shots are noticably worse than the previous sets. (Which were two sets opposite each other)

The background treatment for the current set is much better - with the design of the newsroom areas integrated well with that of the set.

However the projectors are still poor (projecting through daylight is never going to work well - basic physics) - large plasmas would be better. I was surprised they stuck with the image in the projector behind the guest shot (it looks so much better on breakfast when they put a generic infill behind them) - as you only ever see a small chunk of the image that usually makes no sense.

As we are on the subject of the studios, what is the difference in size between N6 and N8?

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has chosen Barco as its visualization supplier for two new studio set refurbishment projects. In total, six display walls will be installed in the news studios N6 and TC7.

It's from July last year but I guess it's in reference to April's relaunch?

Eh? No, this is in reference to N6 and TC7 as it says on that page. They've been in for ages!

N8 isn't really a studio, it's a TV set within the newsroom. N9 is also a set within a newsroom. Both have production galleries, but even they are fairly open.

So why is it dated July 2007 and written as a future event??

News 24 hasn't had a good set since the flags era, when they occupied BBC World's area, and had metal and frosted glass.

Why the hell is Ben Brown on with Louise atm? I know Jon's in America covering the caucuses but still. I think Tim Wilcox could have more chemistry with a sheep than between Louise and Ben, and he's just awful this afternoon.

Who's on in evenings? You don't think they're trying Ben out for something? Louise did mornings for a week last year and Kate's now disappeared to 90-second fame, a new schedule coming???

What bloody difference does it make? People in all jobs often swap shifts with others for an endless number of reasons. Just because Ben Brown is on a few hours earlier doesn't mean they're 'trying him out' for something. And how is presenting 24 in the afternoon any different from presenting in the evening?

I've got to say that I'm getting really cheesed off with all this talk of presenters, shifts and rotas. It is incredibly boring. When this forum launched in 2001, it was about idents, graphics, music, sets and presenters. Now, it seems as though every thread is taken over by the same tedious discussion of presenters. There is more to being a TV pres fan than that, you know.
