Its a shame really.

Why do they have to kill her off? I know she is unlikely to ever return due to her health, but a happy ending for the Duckworths would have been better IMO

But Jack is staying which IMO would have restricted them from producing the really great ending that the character deserves if she had survived and just left the street. I hope they do a better job than they did with Mike's and Fred's deaths though.

I heard that Jack may also be going

They're making a huge mistake IMHO.

It's the only way really. Otherwise we would have had some weak ending where Vera goes off to Blackpool, but then unusually hardly ever comes back (Unrealistic like Martin Platt recently).
Liz then dies at some point in real life, Vera continues to be mentioned in passing a bit but then is never heard of again

Not sure where you heard that - it's already been stated several times by both Bill and the producers that he's staying put.

Agree completely. Unless Jack was leaving as well, they wouldn't be able to have an ending that is as justifiable to character as this will be.

Story to turn this into a spoilerfest...

#1
Jack will be written out, Bill Tarmey is struggling with his health-- he reputedly collapsed with an agina attack on set the other day

#2
Sharon Marshall revealed that
Violet has a teenage sister, who will join the Street shortly. She has an eye for the lads, and is the opposite of Violet in almost every way!

I know we've had this discussion before and generally I'm fine with using the spoiler tags - but it seems ridiculous with this story where we see post after post being tagged.

It's not as if anyone here is going to get to that point without knowing the outcome!

Anyone see the new closing credit sequence tonight? It had different scenes from the street, mostly at night. Perhaps they've changed them because of the clocks going back?

And most people who post here have read the spoiler anyway. Rolling Eyes
Killing her off is the the only realistic thing to do really if Jack isn't going too. (so much for their "if one goes we both go" pact) But even if he is going too, to say they must have a happy shiny ending just because they've "grafted" all their life and are loved is silly. Life isn't like that.

Ok -so are we stuck here with another 1977/78 situation?

Stephen Hancock (no pay rise so I'll quit) Ernie Bishop gets shot. Eileen Derbyshire as Emily stays on and has done for nearly 30 years post Ernie?

If you read Bill Podmore's book from the time about Ernie Bishop John Stevenson isquoted as saying in a scrpit meeting "The only way out of this is that Ernie has to die".

So to save Jack as Liz Dawn want's out- is to literally (in Ernies case) bite the bullett.

Does give Bill Tarmey a great send off mind- not to mention Liz!
