I am just about to watch a programme on ITV1 recorded on Sky+ from ITV1 last week called "The thruth about the babes in the wood".....a horrific tale in itself............

However, ITV1 continuity decided to preceed it by a trailer for "AMERICAN GOTHIC" on ITV4 (no doubt a horror film) and the "happy emotions" ident (stairs, toastm tooth etc...).

Is it me, or does this seem tactless? Are they just throwing in trailers and idents as they appear as "next" on the server? Shocked Shocked

EDIT:
After the first advert break we were treated to the same "happy emotions" ident, with anno (again) that the programme contained "disturbing scenes".

What's going on here? BBC Newsreaders were criticised for wearing the wrong coloured tie when the Queen Mum died, but now we can have happy. laughing and joking idents on ITV1 before murder documentaries Shocked

One I love is after Corrie the ECP switches to a website caption saying

itv.com/soap s

And the announcer says "For all the latest Corrie gossip, login to ITV.com/soap". Smile

itv.com/soap and itv.com/soaps both resolve to the same page.

The announcer reading one thing and the screen saying another is stupidity - the fact that the two URLS go to the same place is neither here nor there.

I hate ITV1's continuity. So drab.

The trailers before the programme are nothing to do with the next programme

I know there's an issue about what follows a serious programme but not what comes before it

Also the ident you describe is used before the news so must be seen as serious.

Why? Just because ITV place it before the news doesn't mean it *should* be before the news...

That's so that people who have been watching the programme before are reminded or informed about what's coming next, in the hope that you'll stay tuned rather than turning over.

What I don't get is the lengthy announcements you sometimes get on idents promoting the programme that'll be starting immediately after the ident is faded out. This time should be used to promote what's coming later, with the actual programme mentioned as an afterthought at the end.

To be fair - ITV continuity have no say in the items placed on the transmission schedule. So to say they 'decided' is not the case. They just provide the script and voice!

Does it seem serious to you? ITV have two idents which could be considered serious, yet use them when they're not needed, and when they are needed they drag out these upbeat 'happy' idents. Ridiculous.

ITV Continuity don't even seem to be trying tonight in Hell's Kitchen. No into and out of break slides, no break bumpers and no other graphics. Just adverts, promos and the programme.
