The wide shot really does make it look like a terribly cheap set - and with that sofa!

If the set looks that large from the aerial shot and from the 6 o'clock handover slot, then why does the main desk area look so tightly packed and claustrophobic?

Any word back home in the papers or on Talkback (which seemed to have its old theme tune back!) about public reaction to the vileness of the UTV Live sofa?

OK, now I've seen clips of the new studio, the desk area doesn't look as claustrophobic as the stills Stevie has posted here.

Also nice to see they have got rid of the DOG.

Maybe they've realised they don't need it anymore because of the hundreds of UTV Live logos on the backdrop! Laughing

Also noticed that on tonight's show they didn't use the opening headline sequence at 6 o'clock. The headlines were simply read out over the clips. Perhaps a sign of more changes to come?

Just saw that online myself - maybe UTV are revamping the show piece by piece - starting with the set and adding new bits every so often.

I would like to see a more coherent graphics package on the programme. While UTV Live's graphics have got a lot better in the past few years, they use different graphic templates for:

Arrow Astons - while it was nice to have them in a similar style to the old ITV News captions, since they changed in January they now look... incongruous
Arrow Captions (why do they use red for the top panel on captions? The only other element of the UTV Live look to use red is the neon strips below the platform the desk stands on)
Arrow Phone captions and map graphics - each of them completely different templates to the other caption
Arrow Two-way captions - an ever changing background - and a totally different font to astons (Futura instead of Helvetica)
Arrow Plasma screen images - again different font to astons and most captions (Futura Bold instead of Helvetica - although I had noticed on some images on UTV Today, Helvetica Bold was used for plasma text the odd time)
Arrow Plus, the UTV Live logos dotted around the set backdrop use a different font for "live" compared to the logo used in the titles and the plasmas (Helvetica Black instead of Eurostile Bold Expanded)

Speaking of the set, what happened to the two other chairs at the desk? Are they unable to fit them into that corner of the studio? Having studio interviews and the sport on the 70s-style sofa just doesn't look right.

One of them was back earlier, Fearghal did an interview from the desk this afternoon. Seems the sport segment has a new home though on the sofa.

It looks like they have sorted out the brightness on the plasmas in the new studio.

Logie has been collecting his Air Miles this week - at the Brandywell on Thursday night, Sunderland on Friday... Good to see Simon O'Rourke being interviewed and being credited to "Tyne Tees Sport", with one of the Tyne Tees OB vans in the background.

I haven't had the chance to see North East Tonight the past week as I have been at work - but it looks like UTV Live have been taking parts of NET's sports reports. Does anyone know who has been reporting on the Roy Keane going to Sunderland story at Tyne Tees? Has it been Simon, or, as I first thought, Andy Kerr?

I also see that the four chairs were back at the desk at the end of Friday night for a bit of studio banter between Frank, Fearghal, Lynda and Claire.

Also forgot to add, cheers Pamela for giving Aghagallon a mention on Wednesday's show! Smile

I wish they would make their mind up about wheter they are using the new studio or old one as they seem to be using the old look for the evening news and weekends obviously cso

Seems they are doing it bit by bit. Today saw a new aston style:

Much nicer methinks!

I like that aston style - the text is easier to read than the previous ones, they tie in with the new set, even the sofa Smile

New CSO backdrop on tonight's news as well. Seems there's no mention of it being UTV Live in the late bulletin, it says "UTV news" behind Gillian! She was also quite see-through tonight!
