It wasn't a very helpful map anyway.

Quite unusual to see "UTV News" on the set - is this leading to only the 1730 show keeping the UTV Live name with other bulletins becoming UTV News?

Up until now the late bulletin was still being called "UTV Live" but I noticed tonight that Gillian was referring to it as "UTV News". She said "And the top story on UTV News tonight..." during the coming up sequence and finished the bulletin with "And that's all from UTV News tonight..." The ECP menus after Life Begins and McCartney v McCartney also had it billed as "UTV News". I don't know what it is but it just doesn't sound right to me.

I like the new caption - nice side panel, but what's with the black strips at the top and bottom? They would look nicer in blue IMO.

That's a very bizarre decision regarding renaming the shorter bulletins - I would have thought UTV Live was strong enough a brand to be used across all of UTV's news updates - it's been nearly 14 years since Ulster Television used different names for the evening news magazine and other shorter bulletin.

Whatever next - end credits at the end of in-house productions? Smile

Here's the ECP menu fom last night's Life Begins billing it as "UTV News":

And here's the new CSO backdrop used on the 1850 headline recap and the 2230 coming up shot:

Bit strange going from that (with UTV Live on the plasmas and the backdrop) to this (with no mention of UTV Live):

and then to this at the end of the bulletin:

It's all a bit muddled up at the minute!

All very odd.

It's probably even more confusing at weekends, when you might have UTV Live titles and UTV News on the CSO backdrop...

Think I've found out why UTV axed nearly all their productions last year - they are using the cost savings to send their reporters around the world!

Fearghal was reporting on Gerry Adams' visit to the Holy Land(s) on location from Israel this evening. Are UTV out there on their own or have Newsline sent someone out there to report on the story too?

And what's going on with the astons on news stories where the presenters read stories over VT? Tonight they had one on a report with half a sentence in big text on the blue bar - and the rest of the sentence in small text on the white bar!

Oh, and I'm plowing my way through expanding the UTV Live section with further articles on presenters, if anyone wants to lend a hand their help would be greatly appreciated... </self-promo>

Opening up this thread to all NI news programmes.

I was watching BBC Newsline on the BBC website last night - and during many parts of the programme you could hear the director cueing VTs and calling shots. For a moment I thought I was watching RTE News Wink

For the programme itself, is it just me or is Newsline looking a bit more messy on screen?

Yesterday they didn't have the "Coming Up" segment until after the first story (then again, yesterday was a major news day!), which mainly consisted of their Home Affairs Reporter, Vincent Kearney, popping up on a CSO screen saying "I'll be looking at dirty money" then quickly cutting back to Donna and Mark, and a shot of the front door of the Belfast venue where the IFA were meeting with no reporter. At least that horrible red bumper they use for coming up sections didn't appear.

I'm sure Mark even referred to "Stephen Wilson" at the K Club at one point.

Why do they insist on using that? The red-on-yellow Northern Ireland is bad enough. I am looking forward to whatever UTV Li, I mean, News are planning.

Noticed on tonight's UTV News bulletin there were no opening titles used. Could this be a sign that new ones are coming tomorrow? All the new additions have been on Mondays so far: studio, astons, CSO backdrop and the new graphics have all been one Monday after the other.

Suppose we'll just have to wait and see...

This is turning out to be the longest rebrand in television news... Smile

Did it just go straight from the end of a trailer into the news, or was there some kind of ident or caption to indicate the news was starting?

Very bizarre.

Oh, and does anyone know if the Sport on Sunday CSO backdrop has changed, or does it still have a shot of the old UTV Live studio?

There was an ident into the news but no opening titles, it just cut straight from the ident to Aidan who then said, "Hello and welcome to the news from UTV..."

And yes, the Sport on Sunday CSO backdrop still remains the same!

You got to love the way you get the headlines and main story, before getting a recap and further comings up!

Still, count the OBs compared to UTV.......
